Updates from the Classic

I apologize for not having this up earlier, but it has been a crazy day for me. Leaving at 5:30 this morning, and driving to Chicago, then spending the day at Wrigley Field, and then dealing with internet issues at the hotel, well, and that’s where I stand now.
So, here are some updates from the Winter Classic.
During practice Brent Seabrook wore sunglasses, this probably doesn’t seem like a big deal, but the sun was a big issue today…for everyone, media included. Ty Conklin didn’t seem too worried about it, but of course this will be his third outdoor game.
Also, the Blackhawks wore black tape under their eyes, and wrote their area code. Dustin Byfuglien was not one of them, I asked him if he was going to do it and he said, “No, I don’t roll like that.” Funny guy.
I asked Aaron Johnson (the former Blue Jacket) what he was most excited about. He said, “I guess it’s just the crowd, and the fact that it’s outdoors, it’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s Wrigley Field, it’s known all over the world.”
Lidstrom is playing tomorrow, he said that they were doing some work on his skate, so hopefully he is going to be alright.
The atmosphere today at practice was great. The guys looked pumped, especially the Blackhawks, the Red Wings were more business, but the Hawks look like they were having a blast on the ice.
Anyway, I will listen to more of my recorder and see what else I can find to put in here.
On a random note, Jiri Hudler was probably the happiest guy I saw today. I didn’t get a chance to interview him because he was one of the last guys on the ice after practice, but he could not stop smiling.

Ah, I was wondering why Adam Burish had “608” written on his black tape under the eyes thingy.

Well, Mickey Redmond doesn’t call him “Happy Hudler” for nothin’!
I thought the NHL Network did a real nice job with their coverage today. Lots of insight, and some good interviews.
You could see the excitement on the players face. The looks on some of the Hawks’ faces as they took the long walk from the locker room to the ice was priceless. It was very refreshing to see multi-millionaire sports stars look like kids again.
