Vermette gets the Winner

Well, now that win was nice.  The Blackhawks were tired from their game last night against the New Jersey Devils and they still managed to get a point out of tonight.

The win tonight tied a franchise record for most points in a season.  80 points and they’re sitting nicely in sixth place in the Western Conference.

The Jackets are now 5-1 with Vermette in the lineup.  He has had an immediate impact on the team, and has helped us in every situation.

About the game, Fedor Tyutin took two penalties in the first and a penalty in the second.  I’ve never seen him that way but let’s hope that it’s only one game and not something that’s going to last.

RJ Umberger and Antoine Vermette continue to be forces on the ice.  The OT winner was an absolute beauty.

Rick Nash continues to lead this team to the playoffs.  He scored the goal to tie it at 3 in the second period, it was his 34th goal of the season.  Remember this guy has never really had a center to work with.  How can you not love his passion?

Dorsett also scored for the Jackets, and Methot returned to the lineup.

I always hate playing the Hawks.  They have so much fire power, and are able to come at you and no lead is safe.  Hitchcock seems to agree.

“They are a dangerous team and they make you nervous. If you make a little mistake in your own zone, down low, you pay for it every time. They have good players and their top players were really good tonight. Every game I’ve coached against them, you’re always on edge. You’re really going to have to have the attitude you are going outscore them, because I don’t believe you can shut them down.”

Here’s Hitchcock on Vermette:

“He’s been solid since we got him. He’s an unassuming player. He doesn’t stick out until you look at the scoresheet and he’s won key face-offs, got the puck out and he’s done a good job killing penalties and scored big points. Every night he gets the job done.”

There are eleven games left this season.  If the Blue Jackets hold on and actually make the playoffs I do have to wonder if Steve Mason is actually in the running for MVP.  There is no way that the Blue Jackets would be in the position we are right now if not for the play of Steve Mason.

It was a great crowd tonight at Nationwide.  The Jackets need all the support they can get during these final games.  No game until Saturday for the Jackets, when they head to sunny Florida to take on the Panthers.
