Next entry: Jackets Cut More

Previous entry: Blue Jackets Make First Cuts

Wait, what did I miss?

Oh yeah, everything.  So, let’s start from the beginning.  There was some HUGE news in Jackets land on Tuesday, when it came out that goaltending prospect Steve Mason was having yet another surgery and is expected to be out another four to six weeks.  Mason had damaged cartilage removed from his left knee.

“Steve is very disappointed,” Howson said. “He is an ambitious young man and he’s a talented young man. He was coming here to make the team. We just want to get him healthy and ready to play again.”

If this injury sounds familiar, it should.  Leclaire went through the same thing in the 2005-2006 season.

Now, onto the preseason games.

The Blue Jackets dropped their first game vs the Chicago Blackhawks.  I was able to listen to this one on radio and it was a bit of a heartbreaking loss.  We had the lead until halfway through the third period.  Then the Hawks came back and scored two, and we weren’t able to tie it up.  Chimera, Novotny, and Picard all scored for the Jackets.  I still remember hearing the announcer talk about Voracek’s pass to Chimera, apparently it was gorgeous.  I can’t wait to see what this kid can do, live and in person.

Last night the Jackets played in Minnesota.  My good friend Elise was able to attend, so hopefully she will have a post up and will let us know what she thought.  (All I know right now is that she was a bit upset that Rick Nash wasn’t playing.)  The Blue Jackets also dropped this game, a 2-1 loss in Minnesota.  There were a lot of penalties taken.  Novotny scored the only goal for the Jackets, on a sweet pass from Voracek.

Nikita Filatov returns to the ice today, which is very exciting.  Hopefully he will be able to play Friday versus Nashville.  I am hoping that I will be able to listen to it.  I will post up more after practice today.
