Nikita Filatov is being recalled, and will be playing in the home opener on Friday!! This is HUGE news for Blue Jackets fans, and of course it doesn’t come without a cost. Jared Boll is out with a head and neck issues, I’m with Portzline when he says Boll hasn’t been right since the fight in Dallas.
Now, onto the game last night. We had a good night on the power play, we were able to score two goals, which is a great thing. HOWEVER, when your power play allows TWO short-handed goals you have a serious problem on your hand. Pascal Leclaire wasn’t as good as he should have been, but he can’t be blamed for all the goals. The Jackets were able to keep the penalties they took at a minimum, but that did not help.
The guys had today off and will resume practice tomorrow, and then we have our game against the Nashville Predators on Friday, our home opener!! Tomorrow is Peca’s hearing, and if he put down to the minimum three games, he will miss the home opener and then be finished with his suspension.
Here are some highlights of the game.
The power play scored!
We were able to stay out of the box for the most part.
Brassard is still on a point streak, the more he plays, the more I enjoy watching them play.
Norrena finally saw some ice time.
The top line of Nash-Umberger-Huselius was solid last night.
It’s only the third game of the season.
The lowlights of the night.
Two short-handed goals…embarrassing.
Not being able to score at even strength.
We couldn’t get anything going.
I am so glad this road trip is over. That west coast trip is brutal, and it’s a tough way to open the season, not that I’m making excuses.
Also of note, Derek MacKenzie from the Syracuse Crunch is going to miss four to six weeks. He had surgery today to repair his ankle, which has been giving him problems since the playoffs last season.

I’m still up in the air about going. I have until no later than 2pm to leave town and get there in time for the game. I’m gonna have to sleep on it. I’m probably being paranoid. But I will see when I get up in the morn. Then i’ll email u my location if i go.

It will certainly be worth the 4 hour drive to see Filatov score a goal (or two?) tomorrow.
