What a day!!

Wow, I am home from Wrigley, and I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing the day was.
As I mentioned earlier I spotted the Red Wings playing soccer out by the concession stands, which was extremely entertaining. I still can’t get over how cool and calm they were with the fans, it was absolutely amazing.
Then, as the boys walked out onto the ice, the walkways next to each other, I don’t know why, but even from where I was, it gave me chills…it probably had something to do with the flames that shot up as they walked onto the ice. Conklin and Huet lead the way for their teams and cheers were heard all around.
The National Anthems were amazing. The Canadian Anthem was great, and people cheered, but nothing compared to the cheering during the USA’s Anthem. The Blackhawks fans kept with tradition and cheered as loud as they could. The fireworks and the planes flying over made it that much better.
I do have to say that I love Mike Babcock, and his hat was absolutely amazing. He told us after that game that it was a bit of a tribute to Toe Blake, which made me like him that much more.
As for the game itself the Blackhawks game out with all the jump, it seemed like the Red Wings were the nervous ones. I think the Blackhawks were a bit more excited to show off for their fans and to give them a good showing which they did…for the first period.
Kris Versteeg was great for the Blackhawks, he had a goal and an assist and was a minus-1 on the night, but even after the game, he was still happy to have been a part of the Winter Classic. Versteeg has so much skill, his pass to Havlat to make it 2-1, was an absolute beauty. Martin Havlat also had a lot of jump in his step during the game, he finished the game with a goal and two assists.
As for the Wings, their struggles in the first period didn’t go unnoticed, but they quickly gained their composure for the second and third, and did what the Detroit Red Wings do, dominate the play. In the first the Wings took a too many men on the ice penalty, and now that I am thinking about it, I think it may have been the first one I have ever seen them take. It was an understandable penalty I suppose though because Cleary was knocked into the Chicago Bench by Brent Seabrook. Brett Lebda had a goal go to video review, luckily for him, it went his way. He was asked if he could write his day going any better, he said, “Well, if I would have known it went in right away I would have celebrated a little differently.” Funny guy.
It was a great game, and I don’t think I heard either teams complain about the ice. It was a well fought game, and you could just see the rivalry come out, in everything, the fans, the players, the entire field was electric with this energy. I do have to give kudos to the Blackhawks fans, I absolutely love the “Detroit Sucks” cheer. Regardless of who won, it was an amazing day for everyone. Standing in Wrigley Field as the 40,818 people sang “Take me out to the Ball Game” was absolutely amazing. I do have a recording of it, but due to technical difficulties (story of my life), I can’t get it up.
I can’t believe the day is over already!!

You had to been in hockey heaven. Cherish the memories.
I’m not sure how loud the US national anthem was @ Wrigley, but I remember at the United Center that guy nearly deafened me; he’s that good (this coming from an alternative & metal music fan. i may not like that style but i can appreciate what’s good and what’s not). Listening to most of the others, he is by far one of the best.

The game was beyond awesome to be at - I loved being there. As a Wings fan trapped in Chicago, my favorite part of the “Detroit Sucks” chant is that when we Wings fans hear it, we yell back, with the same cadence, “Stanley Cup” or “Sixty-one”

Glad you had a good time. My brother was in the stands, maybe you saw him. He had his shirt off the entire game with “Chelios Rules” painted on his chest.
