Zherdev (and Fritsche) Return!

Well, it’s here. Game day against the New York Rangers, it’s not so much that tonights game is going to be about playing the Rangers. It’s about the return of Nikolai Zherdev and Dan Fritsche, and about Fedor Tyutin and Christian Backman playing their old club. Zherdev and Fritsche are going to want to put on a show for the home crowd, and Tyutin and Backman are going to try and keep the Rangers in check.
It’s going to be a big test for the Blue Jackets to keep everything together and to play three solid periods of hockey. The Blue Jackets need a win tonight to stay above .500. Our focus needs to be putting pucks on the net, communication, and playing smart hockey. The Rangers have a potent offense and can score at any time, while their power play may be ranked 22nd in the league, that doesn’t mean they can’t score. The Rangers goaltender, Lundqvist is one of the best in the league, the more pucks we throw at him the better off we will be.
Here is the lineup for the game tonight. As usual the “goat” line stays together for another game.
Nash - Umberger - Huselius
Chimera - Brassard - Voracek
Filatov - Peca - Novotny
Murray - Malhotra - Dorsett
As for defensive pairings:
Hejda - Commodore
Tyutin - Klesla
Methot - Backman
Let’s hope the pairings work tonight, they seem to be improving with every game.
The Blue Jackets have hired an interim goaltender coach. Perry Elderbroom runs a goaltending school in Canada and works with Henrik Lundqvist in schools in Sweden. It sounds like a step in the right direction, especially with Steve Mason looking to get back into the game. Here is the press release from the Jackets.
COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets have hired Perry Elderbroom as an interim goaltending consultant for the National Hockey League club, General Manager Scott Howson announced October 24. He will work with goaltenders throughout the Blue Jackets organization, including at the NHL level and those currently playing in the minor professional leagues and junior hockey.
Elderbroom has over 20 years experience working with goaltenders with an extensive background in Europe, particularly Scandinavia, as well as with teams throughout Canadian junior hockey and professional teams in Finland, Sweden, Austria and Switzerland.
For your enjoyment here is a video of Pete the Cannon Sentry.
And, if you were curious how our prospects were doing, the Blue Jackets take a look at all of them. I will have a look at our minor league affiliates next week, so stay on the lookout for that!

I think Renney is doing alright, with points in all but two of your games. You DO have the guys that are able to score, and able to score a lot, it’s just getting them going. Zherdev is going to put on a show, I have a feeling. Good luck tonight, and try not to be so hard on your boys

No, I agree that Renney is doing alright, it just seems like the offensive talent is being stifled a little under his coaching. I’m not usually so hard on my boys
Good luck to your guys too!

The Rangers don’t have alot of scoring, but they have a great defense and Lundy in the pipes. I expect the Rangers to win this game 3-2. Wouldn’t be surprised if B.Jax wins with the same score, either.

Man, I wish that was true.

The Rangers are 23rd in the league in goals/game, which is a continuation of last year when they were 25th. And Jagr was a more dangerous scoring threat than anyone they have this year.
Sorry…annoyed Rangers fan here. I like Renney, but he has a very conservative coaching style.
