Zherdev’s Triumphant Return

Okay, so I missed the first period due to being on the road, and hitting every ounce of traffic ever. But, thankfully I made it home for the second period. The first period appeared to be interesting, with Voracek scoring his third goal of the season. Also, don’t boo Zherdev. He was traded, he didn’t leave by choice. It’s classless, save your boo’s for someone that matters, yes, you know who I am talking about.
The second period got underway, and the Blue Jackets went down 2-1. Daniel Girardi and and Brandon Dubinsky scored the goals for the Rangers. Both goals, had an assist from, you guessed it, Nikolai Zherdev. A scary moment happened in the second, before the scoring took place, with Rangers coach Tom Renney took a stick, and was helped to the back, and did not return. Rick Nash also had a breakaway and missed it. Rick Nash is now 0 for 6 on the breakaways on the season…not that I’m counting.
The third period is when everything fell apart. Zherdev scored a goal, and got boo’d AGAIN. The Jackets looked like they couldn’t care less in the third and let the Rangers walk all over them. I love this team when they try, but on nights like tonight, when they don’t try, it makes me so upset. The Rangers deserved to win, I didn’t see the first period, but man, if we were anything like the last two, I didn’t miss much. Lundqvist was great tonight stopping 25 out of 26 shots, and the shot he let in from Voracek was a pretty one.
The highlight of the night for me was when Zherdev scored. I knew he would and had I been at the game, I would have cheered him on. It wasn’t his choice to leave, we traded him, and now need to accept that. Zherdev did as I expected him to do, he put on a show, and good for him. I am thankful he is happy there, and is doing so well.
The Jackets need to regroup and fast, we play the Minnesota Wild tomorrow night, we fell below .500, again. Tom Renney was shown at the post game press conference, and he appeared to be fine, that is a great sign. They typically show Hitch’s press conference after the game, but not tonight, my guess is he was not too happy. We will have to wait until a bit later to see exactly what he says. I think it might be time for a pep talk from me…but I don’t know that I could handle it tonight.
And an FYI, my posting on Saturday and Sunday might slow down, I may be going out of town and where I’m going, there’s no internet, no hockey, and no cell reception. But, I will definitely post and let you know!
