]]> 2009-11-10T22:06:58+00:00 Bethany The Legein Trade http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.php/bhr/comments/the_legein_trade/ http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.php/bhr/comments/the_legein_trade/ Paul posted earlier about the trade between Philly and the Jackets.  Stefan Legein was sent to the Flyers for d-man, Michael Ratchuk.  Stefan has always been one of my favorite prospects, yeah, even with the “retirement” and everything.  Here’s the thing though, while I am sad that I won’t get to see Legein in a Blue Jackets jersey, I am so happy for him.  This is his chance to get a new start.  He will be in an entirely new environment, with new teammates.  Teammates that he didn’t let down, teammates who (in theory) won’t judge him for what happened while he was a Blue Jacket.  He gets to start over and I wish him nothing but the best.  But, what about that new guy? It was an amazing game. The Jackets were tentative at first, but eventually got their act together and got the win. With the new season, I’m changing my post game format. Now to the home opener.  It should be a great game.  There is some bad blood between the Wild and the Jackets, going back to the preseason when Eric Belanger boarded Chimera.  Belanger did apologize for the hit, but Chimera is standing his ground saying it was a dirty hit.  However, I think Boll said it best: “It’s always in the back of your head,” Boll said. “We know who did it and we know what happened, but we can’t let that get in the way of getting two points. Saturday, I picked up my phone and dialed DirecTV.  I wanted to complain about not getting Versus, while it may not be my favorite coverage, it still IS hockey coverage.  Let me make this clear, I am a Center Ice Subscriber, I get HBO and Cinemax, and the Sports Pack, which allows me to get all the local sports channels.  DirecTV gets quite a bit of money from me every month.  I have been with them for three years.  The ONLY reason I switched to DirecTV was so I could get Center Ice and Versus.  They did later add the NHL Network. DirecTV, Versus Due to some pressure from my good friend, Mike Chen, I decided I should blog about my experience with DirecTV.  Believe me, it wasn’t pretty.

]]> 2009-09-30T13:31:29+00:00 Bethany Four Days and Counting… http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.php/bhr/comments/four_days_and_counting/ http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.php/bhr/comments/four_days_and_counting/ Yesterday, the Jackets acquired Anton Stralman from the Calgary Flames for a third-round pick in the 2010 entry draft.  Stralman is exactly what the Jackets needed, in theory.  Here’s General Manager Scott Howson, on the subject: “Anton fits a critical need on our roster,” Howson said. “He’s got puckmoving ability and power-play potential. He’s a right-(hand) shot, too, which is a nice bonus. “He’s still a young player in the league, so he has a lot of upside, too.” We have needed that right-handed shot for quite a while, and he has power-play potential. The Blue Jackets have been busy this summer locking up Nash, Brassard, and Dorsett.  This is a great move.  Vermette made an immediate impact on the team when he came to us last season. More on this later (after work). Antoine-Vermette, Columbus-Blue-Jackets The Blue Jackets have signed Vermette to a contract extension.  It is a 5-year contract, worth $18.75 million.

I am not a resident of Columbus or Franklin County so the ‘sin tax’ has nothing to do with me…except my team is involved. After the Jackets signed him I had the opportunity to meet Ryan twice, he was such a strong person, and is such a hero.  Ryan was a huge part of the Blue Jackets, many of the fans including myself, got behind Ryan, and cheered him on, we grew attached to him. Ryan had the opportunity to see both of the Blue Jackets home playoff games.  He will never know how many people he touched in his short life, but I am so thankful that his family allowed us to get to know him. Without thinking I chose getting swept in the playoffs.  The Columbus Blue Jackets earned their spot and while we had an extremely short run, it was amazing. The Jackets came to play tonight, and they were able to come back to tie the game…twice. The crowd was amazing, almost deafening at times, they got behind the Jackets and pushed them to be better. Columbus-Blue-Jackets, Detroit-Red-Wings Jackets are down 0-3 in the series, I am down with the plague it seems like, and quite frankly I can’t put this game into words yet…but here, enjoy Commodore spending some time in the Red Wings bench.

Vermette has the speed and the skill to play with Nash and Juice, and that’s why we brought him in. Tomorrow night the Blue Jackets play their first ever HOME playoff game.  Nationwide has always been kind to the Blue Jackets, and hopefully it will remain the same tomorrow.
