Forty Wins

It’s the wrong time of year for a team who has never made the post-season to drop the ball and that’s exactly what the Blue Jackets did this last weekend.
Nobody other than the captain played well, and that includes goaltender Steve Mason, but I absolutely refuse to pin the losses on him. He’s the reason we’re here, and the reason we’re battling for our playoff position.
Now onto the game tonight.
For the first time in franchise history we have 40 wins. FORTY. It’s a very exciting time to be a Blue Jackets fan.

hate the deadline, can’t stand it. Last year was tough on the team and fans, as our ‘captain’ forced his way out. This season we are going to be buyers, which means we’ll be getting rid of some of the players that aren’t “necessary” for the playoff push. I have been trying to come up with a few guys, but nothing really sticks out aside from Backman. I highly doubt that we will have any takers for him.
I trust Scott Howson and his decisions, so I know that if we get a good deal for a quality center, he will take it, but won’t sell the farm. And, hopefully won’t give up too many draft picks doing it.

Wow. What a game last night. I don’t have time for a real post, so this will have to do for now, but I promise it will be worth it.
*The game last night was absolutely ridiculous, way too many goals were scored, but in the end we somehow prevailed, and in the shootout to boot. I am impressed.
*Rick Nash was a monster last night. Nash had a goal and two assists and a goal in the shootout to seal the victory for the Jackets. Nash is now the all-time leading scorer for the Columbus Blue Jackets. He is now one point ahead of David Vyborny. Vyborny had 317 points in 543 games. Nash now has 172 goals and 146 assist in 404 games all as a Blue Jacket. Here’s to many more points to come!

I hate having so many days off between games. It’s hard to talk about what the team should do now, since, well, there isn’t anything new I can say. Well, I can always say that I want the goat line back, but you know, that gets old pretty quick.
Derick Brassard is the winner of The Hockey News Calder vote. What does this mean? Well, nothing really. He doesn’t get a prize, but it is nice to see the kid get noticed. He has so much skill and is finally making the move to the top line with Nash and Huselius. Brassard is fun to watch, and isn’t afraid to stand up for himself. Derick Brassard is quickly becoming a fan favorite because he gives it all every single night. Every shift he is skating his hardest, and he gets better every single game. I fully expect him to win the Calder if he keeps this up.

I apologize for this post taking so long to get up, but my computer decided to crap out on me yesterday afternoon, right when I started NaNoWriMo. But, I am back in action now thanks to the wonderful guy at the Genius Bar.
Anyway onto the game, the Blue Jackets lost to the Chicago Blackhawks last night in a shootout. No shocker there, whenever we go to a shootout I just expect to lose. We very rarely score, and I don’t know what the problem is. Well I know what the problem was tonight, we were facing a goalie who wanted to win. My mom insists it’s the speed that they go down, but I don’t agree. We have the skill, we just struggle on breakaways. I personally thought it was interesting that Rick Nash was put in on the shootout. He is 0-8 on breakaways this season, and is in a bit of a point slump, but what can you do. Here’s who I would have put in on the shootout, Brassard, Voracek, and Chimera…yup, the goat line.

Wow, what an amazing game! Okay, so maybe it wasn’t the most exciting first period, but it was great to see our team working as a team. Here are some random tidbits from the game.
I said this before, Pazzy sprained an ankle when Boogaard went into the net. Hitchcock said in his post game that Pazzy could have finished the game, but they put Norrena in just to be safe. Umberger took a slash to the finger, he will be back practicing with the team on Tuesday. Leclaire will be back practicing with the team also Tuesday. Hitch also said that the team will be back to 100% aside from Torres come Tuesday. Boll did have an ice pack on his hand in the locker room after the game, I don’t know what is going on with him and, I am sure we will be updated today.
