From CBS Sports,
New Vancouver Canucks defenseman Aaron Miller will undergo minor abdominal surgery on Tuesday, one day before the opening of training camp.
Miller, who signed a one-year, $1.5-million contract as an unrestricted free agent this summer, is expected to rejoin the Canucks during the preseason, general manager Dave Nonis said in a statement. After further consultation with our medical team, it was decided that surgery was the best course of action,” Nonis said. “It is expected that Aaron will make a full recovery in two weeks.”
A full recovery in two weeks, we’re supposed to be reassured? Oy.
Well, that’s all well and good but why on earth is this happening one day prior to training camp...? There’s no indication what caused this injury to Miller - or when. (Maybe he fell off his roller skates last week? Perhaps someone can enlighten me.) Meanwhile, I’m just going to assume that the medical staff and team procrastinated on the necessity of the surgery all summer and ultimately realized he needed it more than they thought.
And even if he’s in the game in the 2 weeks, is it likely he’ll be fully recovered? Two weeks sounds awfully fast after a surgery to a core muscle area, “minor” or not.

I think this IS part of the Canucks welcoming program.
“Hi Aaron have you had your ab surgury yet, you’re really not going to fit in until you do?”

Ha!! I agree about the “welcoming committee"… it’s a bit of a trend around here.
I like Miller, but I won’t look forward to seeing him fully in shape till freaking Christmas.

ummmmh didn’t someone give old Aaron a medical before they signed him?
I see he had no goals and eight assists in 82 games for a minus 14 rating with the Kings last season. Albeit the Kings. Maybe Aaron Miller is the Marc Chouinard of 2007/08.

For all of you who ‘know everything’ about hockey, but have never played the game: you do not know how good of a defenseman, leader, & teammate that you were lucky enough to get. All of you will be eating your words come seasons end...early in the playoffs.

I agree with you, Christopher, and I think most other fans do as well. Miller is a great acquisition. It’s just nerve-wracking to have the guy go down like this before the season starts.
I’m sure he’ll get plenty of opportunity to prove his value to the Canucks, but I fear that abdominal surgery is going to delay his impact for longer than the team suggests it will.
But we’ll hope for the best…

That’s a real shame especially comeing into a completly new enviroment; really only know one of his new players (cowan) it is goin to be really tough for him to gel with his new teammates right after surgery. I hope the best to him but, cerntainly think this will now give the inside track to Bourdon and edler for the 6th spot as both have in a canucks uniform and may be more ready and fitted into the team build by the time Miller is ready to skate missing training camp is gonna be one step backward for a vetrean player who has ahd a tough time playing a full season altough did it last year.
