Canucks/Chicago Game Schedule

According to Jason Botchford (hat tip to Zanstorm) at The Province’s White Towel blog:
The Canucks are expected to announce soon they will begin their second round series on Thursday and it will be a 6 p.m. start.
Game 2 will be Saturday.
Botchford also mentions that their was some debate about the start times, the “broadcast rights holders” (not sure if that’s just the US broadcaster or CBC as well) apparently pressing for a start time as early as 4pm or 5pm PST.
The Canucks squashed that plan, though I wish they hadn’t agreed to the 6pm start either. That earlier time is difference between us being able to watch the game live, and now having to watch the game afterwards on tape. It’s better than 4pm, but I’m not pleased. I wonder how all the people who will be trying to get from their office to the game on time feel about it.
I realize that it’s a late hour for the Chicago time zone, but what’s the point of home ice advantage if the team who has that supposed advantage has to play on their opposition’s—or the east coast television market’s—schedule?

what else is new. Its one of the reasons why we have the WORST travel schedule in the League, but apparently they don’t give a damn, as long as teams in the east save money. They want to accomodate other markets.

i’m not sure what the big deal is. yes its annoyingly early for the left coast, but for the NHL its better overall. It probably means the difference between tens of thousands of viewers if it’s shower stupidly late in Chicago.
there isn’t much advantage to gain here. The advantage is in home crowd, home cooking, and home nookie
it’s all about the comfort.

The 6:00 PM start is horrible. As you say, just what point is the point of having home ice advantage if it’s given away in order to make the broadcast schedule more appealing to the Chicago market?
I would think its more for the Eastern market as a whole, not just Chicago.

How is having a 6PM all THAT bad? Most people should be home by then, anyway. It’s not ideal, but it’s not like people will be missing half the game (it will start a bit late, I’m sure)
People bitch about how poor the NHL markets itself, so why the bitching when they are trying to make sure the Eastern markets (especially Chi-town) can see the game at a more reasonable hour? You can’t have it both ways.
