The Vancouver Canucks play the “gutless-pigs” tonight, and Alain Vigneault has a plan:
In: Trevor Linden, Jeff Cowan, Rick Rypien
Out: Brad Isbister, Byron Ritchie, Ryan Shannon
Yeah. That’ll solve everything.
Good to see Linden finally drawing in, but unimpressed to see Shannon & Isbister pushed out. Particularly Shannon—even in a bad game, at least he’s one of the few guys entertaining to watch.
Anyway, listening to the first part of Team 1040’s Moj & Burns act today, I had the unexpected experience of hearing a surprising number of Vancouver call-in listeners sounding rational, thoughtful, unpanicked, and even (shock!) patient with the most recent two losses. (But then again, one of the show’s hosts managed to interject the perspective of “the Canucks are pu#$ies,” so I suppose my intelligent-hockey-radio experience still had its usual limitations...)
But they had some good stuff, too. A enjoyable interview with Alex Burrows recorded yesterday, etc, etc. Check out the Team’s podcasts when you can.
Other things to do and read before this 4pm (ie. “too early to watch while drunk") game:
- Good article by Iain MacIntyre in yesterday’s Vancouver Sun: “Canuck Icons Nearing End”
- New Crazy Canucks podcast uploaded yesterday. Lots of Pronger ranting (who, by the way, received an 8 game suspension today) and excessive optimism in various irrational ways.
- Canucks/Stars Preview
If you need somewhere to hang out at game time, the Yankee Canuck is doing a liveblog. I might even be hanging out there myself…
Finally, the best line in Canucks blogging this week deserves a mention. Zanstorm at Waiting for Stanley tossed out this observation of Markus Naslund on Thursday night:
Did you see how Naslund acted after Jovo tagged Morrison? He stood in between the Canucks and Jovo and went into Jovo’s face like a ref would and told him to stop the roughing. That’s not cool. He should have popped him one. Nazzy is too passive. He reminds me of Jesus I think.
...which immediately reminded me of this image which has been floating around the net for years:

She can be pretty entertaining, that’s for sure. I don’t mind the insanity, either. I don’t often like that much negativity, but the thing about her… at least you know where she stands. Unlike some others I can think of.
The Dallas/Vancouver thing was classic. You can relive it here if you like.

I have no problem seeing Jesus ice skate, or even play hockey for that matter… but I just can’t picture him saying “LOL”

“...but I just can’t picture him saying “LOL””
You might be right. Despite his apparent good nature, I think if Jesus found himself on ice skates and spending three hours on the same ice as Steve Ott, he’d be more of a “OMG.WTF?” sort of guy.

Oh yeah, a 4-3 win! I’m back on the wagon !!
Nice coaching by Vigneault splitting up the Twins and putting the Pettinger-Morrison-Naslund line together.
My Naslund hate has subsided greatly. He was awesome.

Minnesota, San Jose, Dallas, Colorado et al. have
initiated a “Kesler Trophy.” IT’S SHAPED LIKE A PAIR OF SCISSORS!
The rematch will take place in April if the “mouth’s” team can squeeze in! I hope the Canucks do make the playoffs. Tenuous, at best!

I had forgotten how hilarious Jennifer Floyd Engel’s articles were—I remember howling at them during the Dallas-Vancouver playoff match-up last year. Don’t often hear that kind of tone from the mainstream media...it’s kinda refreshing, even if she does sound a little insane. Ok, maybe because she sounds insane.
