Canucks Third Jersey Released

Thanks to Zanstorm of Waiting for Stanley, I was given a head’s up about this news from the Canucks:
The Vancouver Canucks unveiled their new third jersey Thursday night at the Sports Celebrities Festival and they didn’t reinvent the hockey sweater with the look - it’s a classic vintage throwback that honours past eras of Canucks hockey.
The jersey, which will be officially worn on-ice by the Canucks when they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs on November 15, is familiar in its overall look. Of course there’s some subtle twists on the original.
The sweater will make its first appearance on Saturday, meanwhile you can check out the photos and poll below.

As the Canucks release points out, it’s really a throwback to the past but with at least one notable difference that you see right away: a revamped stick-in-rink logo.

I’m not sure what was wrong with the original stick logo frankly, but what the hell… it’s like Canucks abstract art, maybe?
Here’s a complete photo gallery to take a closer look at what’s on Ohlund’s shoulder in the pic up above. And a video for some history, etc.
So what does everyone else think? And before you answer the poll question, keep in mind that there were worse ideas floating around out there today...

Kevin— Your affection for nostalgia nearly blinds me every time. ![]()
Yankee Canuck— Yes “worse”. That photoshop of yours this morning was funny but mildly insane. Much like you, in fact…

I knew this already. I already have the tshirt with that logo!
I won it like last month when i went to boston pizza. I got Demitra, and he scored a goal so they gave me a t-shirt. Also, I won a free meal there in a draw!
It was my lucky day, too bad there were only 2 of us and it was only 50 bucks.

Bad jersey.
BUT it should be made up into posters and stuck all over the dressing room so the other players are reminded of their roles on the team. It would be a perfect motivational tool.

Well i guess that’s what everyone expected, but I would’ve preferred the old ones like these.
Those over the stick in rink? I dont think so….. those halloween ones should be put to rest for good.
The 3rd jersey is great.

They’ve used the new stick and rink logo since last year. Obviously it wasn’t the main logo, but I was sad when they changed it from the original stick and logo. I always loved the original stick and rink, because somehow it made me think it was Pac-man’s cousin or something when I was a kid. I don’t know why they changed it.

Personally I don’t like the third jersey… its so plain and not original its not even worth wearing. It is basically the same jersey.. basically a money grab attempt in my opinion…
I think something in green like the brampton battalion jersey would be nice. Swap the blue and the green would do it. my thoughts http://jib-sports-culture.blogspot.com/2008/11/canucks-third-jersey.html

dammit dammit dammit
when are they going to stop tinkering and go back to the original stick in rink? stop tweaking. the first one was the good one. by adding just a dash of cartoonery by making the stick wider, shorter, and more angular, now the logo looks curiously bland, like there’s not enough there. the original logo was minimalist and it works. now this one is a minimalist design with a cartoony aesthetic. kind of like if you gave chicago indian head big googley eyes or a big toothy growl. incidentally, this is the exact same problem as their 1st/2nd jersey: a retro layout with a cartoony logo. i wish this organization would quit trying to ram marketing gimmicks down our throats (7th man, forever faithful) and just show some loyalty to its own friggin history. quite trying to reinvent yourselves.

At first, I hated it, but now, I love the new modified Stick ‘n Rink. I still love the original though. The reason the crest was modified was to make the ‘C’ stand out more. The ‘C’ in the original Stick crest was based on the green outer border. With the modified version, the white inner border ‘C’ stands out more. Also, the bigger stick in the logo is really a “a close up”. The fact that it’s on an angle gives the logo a bit of an edge. It will take some getting use to. Remember, the Washington Capitals modified their wordmark logo and some of the Original Six clubs have altered their crests during their 50+ years.
