First, the team has recalled Alexander Edler from the Manitoba Moose.
Speaking of the Moose, Cory Schneider didn’t have a great opening game to his professional career over the weekend, but still managed put a good light on it:
“It takes a lot to win at this level,” said Schneider. “The guys played great in the third period and kind of dug us out of the hole I helped put us in. If we play like that for three periods, we’ll be pretty good this year.”
See? He already sounds like a pro: “Not my best effort…blah blah blah… need to play 60 minutes… blah blah blah…”

Trivia: Flashing back to the game against Edmonton Saturday night, Matt Cooke’s healthy scratch was his first in 8 years, which I didn’t realize till I read Grant Kerr’s Globe & Mail column.
Finally, Lucas Aykroyd at Hockey Adventure asks what I think is a pretty interesting question: “Why haven’t Vancouver police charged Jesse Boulerice?”
Aykroyd is NOT suggesting that they should charge him, just that the Vancouver police have been quick to get involved in other major on-ice situations at GM Place in recent years, and wonders what’s different about this one:
The point is that we’re talking about Vancouver, and here, the police frequently take action when it comes to on-ice mayhem.
GM Place, for whatever bizarre reason, has witnessed a disproportionate number of high-profile violent NHL incidents in the new millennium, the kind that are repeated on sports highlight reels even in places where no one cares about hockey.
So far, three out of the four longest suspensions in NHL history have been levied due to outrageous acts at GM Place, and the previous two resulted in criminal trials.

Incidentally, Boulerice was put on waivers this morning. Perhaps he can join the Canucks…
