Cartoon Punditry

Seeing Earl Sleek’s genius today at AOL’s NHL Fanhouse, I was compelled to rip it off and reprint it here (well, with his permission!).

It’s just too bad that this happens to Joe Sakic of all people. One of the only players that team has ever had that I don’t want to throw under a bus… or a snowblower. wink

Update 2:40pm PT: It’s been suggested I made a tasteless joke above with the “throw under a bus” phrase. It was not intended to be a joke referring to Sakic’s history.  I actually had no idea about that accident before now (or if I once knew about it, I’d long since forgotten). I was just using it as a general expression. My apologies to those who were offended.

I’m just excited that my cartoon even resembles a snow blower, as I’ve never actually seen one in my life!  smile Ah, blessed SoCal…

To be honest, Earl, I’ve lived in some serious winter hell holes (ie. Alberta) and I’ve never seen a snow blower up close either. I always figured snow blowers were just for those rich & fancy cold people.  (I was always stuck with a shovel!)

But your rendition looks about right to me… smile

Joe Sakic?  Throw under a bus?!  Poor taste....

(if you can’t think of why, think of the Swift Current Broncos...)

I was so looking forward to a comment on Sunday night’s game, but you remained silent… only to say this. So mean. :(

First thing I thought too...I’m sure it was unintentional.

I wasn’t aware of Sakic’s accident till just a few minutes ago - or maybe I once knew about it, but I’d long-since forgotten.  I was only using the words as a general expression, not as a reference to his personal history.

Sorry to anyone who misunderstood. A tasteless joke wasn’t my intention in any way.

To be fair, I didn’t know Sakic was in the Broncos crash, either.

I was about to wonder why he wasn’t with the ‘87 WJHC team instead (the one that got tossed for brawling with the Russians), but I see it was his draft season, so he likely wouldn’t have gone, because draft-eligible players tend not to go to the WJHC unless they blow the pants off everyone.
