Cheery Friday Memories

This flashback gem from M.MacDonald Hall at the Bleacher Report:
“In a 2002 game vs the Vancouver Canucks, Nabby became the first goalie to score a power-play goal, and the first European netminder to hit the other end.”
A not-so-gentle reminder that, not only does almost every team in the NHL feature a forward who has set some form of scoring record against the Vancouver Canucks, even other goalies set freakin’ scoring records against the Vancouver Canucks.
(I hate being out of the playoffs. It forces me to dwell on such things.)
And for bonus points, ugly memories of 1994. Tony Gallagher at The Province today, with “Coach Keenan a Pretty Special Guy”:
Keenan has had many a critic over the years for many good reasons and nobody is contending he’ll ever be canonized or held up as the greatest coach in the history of the game. But when it comes to the playoffs, he’s pretty special.
Tony Gallagher finds something redeemable in Mike Keenan? Yes. And he redeems and redeems him for about 2000 words.
But perhaps not a surprise.
Gallagher and Keenan: two dark forces, one beating heart.

This is what I’m saying! So true. Dark, dark, dark...darkness everywhere.

At first, I thought that comparison might be unduly harsh… but then I couldn’t decide to whom it was harsh. Also, who other than Tony Gallagher would think of the great idea of running a pro-Keenan column in a Vancouver paper, particularly right when the Canucks seem to be headed back to the Keenan era of mediocrity? That just hurts…
