Columbus Irritates Me Before the Game Even Begins

Given all the online column inches of the last few days dedicated to hockey blogger accountability I thought I’d clarify my own, as it was called into question today.
Last Saturday I (along with a few others out there as I discovered later) published the Mike Commodore photo that’s since shown up everywhere, with the statement that it was posted on Mike’s own Facebook page.
Anyway, fast-forward to today when Tom Reed reported on the topic at his Columbus Dispatch blog Puck-Rakers—and I’ve since received a fair bit of blowback from his post.
Reed had spoken with Commodore to clarify how the photo came to be, which was enlightening but then he finished his post with the statement that “[some] blogs reported the picture had been part of Commodore’s Facebook page” and provided this quote from Mike to imply those “some blogs” were in error:
“I had one (a Facebook page), but I don’t have one anymore,” Commodore said. “I would never post a picture like that . . . I’m way smarter than that.”
As a result of Reed’s wording and the context in which he uses Commodore’s quote, a few of my own readers have contacted me today with the concern that I couldn’t possibly have gotten the photo where I said I got it.
Fortunately Greg Wyshynski of Puck Daddy (who himself posted the photo yesterday) was good enough to get clarification directly from Commodore and his friend Fred Wray (the one who originally posted the photo) and they provided further details which Greg was nice enough to pass on to me this afternoon:
It was [part of Commodore’s Facebook page] and Commodore said so. The grey area here is that the photo was actually uploaded to his buddy’s page, was tagged with Mike’s name, and therefore ended up on Mike’s photo page on Facebook. So, in reality, it actually was part of Commodore’s Facebook page.
Which is ultimately where I sourced it, before Commodore apparently removed his page.
Puck Daddy has published a full interview with the guy today and it’s clear Mike Commodore has a healthy sense of humor about himself, for which I’m grateful. And my thanks to Wyshynski personally for asking the guy the right questions to fully understand how the photo hit the internet.
Unlike the Columbus Dispatch, at least Wyshynski knows how on earth Facebook actually works...

Anyway, game time is soon and I’ll feel a lot better about this whole stupid experience if my favorite team can wax the BJ’s tonight. But, alas, that might be too much to hope…

Bah!!!! Ohio is just one giant conspiracy of evil today.
It must be the influence of the upcoming election. Everyone in the state get out your tinfoil hats and look for the black helicopters ... or whatever conspiracy theorists do.

I like conspiracy theories. They nicely allow me to blame whoever I want, however I want, for the things that tick me off.
(Not that this makes me a terribly rational person sometimes...)
