Congratulations, Duck Fans

imageI’m going to keep this brief in an effort to avoid being a sore loser.  I’m not a sore loser, really… just a Canucks’ fan with a bitter hatred of hockey at the moment.  This shall pass, as it always does.  The Ducks earned that series and I wish them well.

I’ll confess to being fond of that team before we faced them in this playoff round. I love scrappy hockey players and I’m a huge fan of Brian Burke.  (Plus the mere fact that Edmonton hates Pronger so much sort of compels me to like him).  So I didn’t go into that series with my usual bitterness, though I did manage to summon enough hockey-hate to get by.

But now they’ve kicked us out.

So here is the tricky part.  I usually dream of horrible, unpleasant things happening to teams that knock the Canucks out of the playoffs, as evidenced by the special places of hatred in my heart for the Avalanche, the Wings, the Wild, and so on. But not this time.

I won’t go so far as to say I’m going to be cheering for the Ducks, but I won’t pray for a comet to slam into their home arena and incinerate them, either.

Perhaps this is a sign I’m “maturing”? Not really.  I still wouldn’t mind them all getting food poisoning… I’m just holding off actually wanting to attend their funerals.

Yes, that’s mature enough for now. Good luck, Anaheim Ducks.

Hockey coverage will continue here, year round as always. Just give me a day or two to shake the bitterness. And for those of you who won’t be back till October, I’ll hope to see you then…

Wow...you are so mature, oh wait....you had your fingers crossed as you typed that didn’t you?  Ok, seriously, yeah we didn’t deserve to win...but we also didn’t deserve to lose like that...both goals, to say nothing of the trip on Salo in G4...sigh...I hate when I wake up still foaming at the mouth.  I’m sure that by August, I’ll be calm enough to actually look forward to next October.

Thanks, Alanah.

I will also admit to a pretty favorable position regarding Vancouver--not a team I’ve ever hated in any sense, and GM Place is one of the few arenas I’ve ever attended an NHL game in.

It always seems trite at the end of a series to say stuff like “sorry it didn’t turn out better” because as a Ducks fan, of course, I am rooting the local boys on, but thanks for staying classy despite the exasperation / frustration.

Canucks played the Ducks tough for the most part, and showed they got some postseason moxie; they weren’t postseason ‘frauds’ or ‘imposters’ in any sense.  I think Nonis should have a good idea of where to improve, so I’d expect the ‘Nucks to be a thorn in our sides for quite a while.

Anyway, I’m impressed by the class of a lot of the Canuck fans throughout the series; hopefully you won’t all be wishing death to the Ducks--we’ve had a history of tough losses as well.

Keep up the good work on the blog, and thanks for the congrats.

Yep, it’s a tough pill to swallow but the boys had a great season.

Good luck to the ducks and their fans. Did I just type that? Yikes.

hearsay! at last! i’ve been sitting here wondering why the canucks lost. we had anaheim exactly where we wanted them. we got outplayed, outchanced, outhit, luongo played like a god and we tie it 1-1 going into OT. Naturally, we’re supposed to win. i know most teams don’t win like that but well… we’re the canucks and dammit, tiring the arms of opponents’ forwards is what got us the NW title.

i mean, i wore my luongo jersey, went for a work-out, said burrows name out loud three times in the elevator and dammit we won every time. now, i’m not a superstitious guy but we won everytime i did that.

its your fault alanah for not hating them so much. karmic retribution is a bitch grin

oh god i can’t beleive i just used a grin

I read today the Twins were suffering from a severe stomach virus since the middle of round 1.
That explains their lack of production.
It is too bad, I was dreaming of a possible Wings/Nucks matchup and betting Alanah into submission.

Don’t worry, we will knock them off for you.

Agreed...the Ducks are a fun team to watch...that is all I hope for in these playoffs...a couple of teams that are fun to watch.

I picked the Sabres to win it all, and I am going to stick with them right now.  But, the sentimental favorite would have to be the Senators.

That’s a lot of Hate you’ve piled up over the years Alanah wink

Seriously though Vancouver had a good run. The Dallas series in the first round was a good one.

Dev -- I’m not thinking about it all in much detail for now, or I would be foaming at the mouth, too. Better I just try and block it from my mind. God knows, I’ve had the practice…

Earl -- Very nice of you to stop by and offer kind words. And I’m glad everyone gets along mostly, at the end of the day. There always has to be winners and losers. (I just wish the fu#king Canucks could do the winning route more often.  But alas, it’s not meant to be.)

Trini -- You’re always such a classy Canucks fan. Thanks for your contributions all season, particularly the article you wrote of your road trip to San Jose. That was just great.

Grey Wall -- Don’t laugh, but I actually was worried I didn’t hate them enough. God, the superstitions… it gets so damn complicated!

Paul -- I don’t bet anymore… I’m reformed. Very saint-like and well behaved forevermore.

And that thing about the Sedins wouldn’t surprise me. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of Canucks were playing through things we heard nothing about.  But it’ll take me time before I’m emotionally ready to read about their struggles in the newspaper. I’m hiding for now. smile

Red Wings -- Methinks you’ve got to worry about knocking off San Jose first. But thanks for the offer!

GZ Expat -- Go Sens! I think they can do it. (And this isn’t my heart talking… I really think they can.)

Colin -- It is a lot of hate, you’re correct. But in my defense, it’s just “hockey hate”, which doesn’t poison your soul, or anything, just helps pass the time. smile

Hmm no new posts in a few days....

Has Alanah taken this loss a little harder than expected?
Has she hit the bottom of the bottle yet?
did she drink the worm?

These are the questions that I want answered
