From TSN:
Vancouver Canucks’ centre Pavol Demitra will be sidelined 3-4 weeks after an MRI discovered fractured cartilage in his ribs.
Demitra, who signed with the Canucks as a free agent this summer, is expected to see a specialist to deal with the injury.
Kyle Wellwood is expected to take Demitra’s place in the lineup.
Lordy. Demitra’s penchant for injury is astonishing. Possibly the luckiest day of Wellwood’s life, though…

Was it really only two weeks ago that the Canucks surprised us by storming out of the gates and spanking the Flames twice? And then beating the defending champs in their own building? Showing some offensive flair to match their defensive prowess? Decent chemistry on three forward lines? Why do those already feel like distant memories?
Dammit, I let my guard down too quickly and my expectations strayed out of “low” territory. For that, I deserve this sinking feeling. We all knew that this year’s team was vulnerable—one or two injuries to one of four or five key players might break the season. I so hope this isn’t one of those.

Forechecker— You’re bad...!
Jeremy— How can you call yourself a Canucks fan and yet still let your guard down? Hell, even the Canucks themselves encourage us to remember our suffering. ![]()
But all is not lost. I think the road trip was bad for a lot of reasons. Returning to Vancouver and playing a familiar foe like Edmonton on Saturday night will revive them. (Trust me… I’m almost never optimistic, so it must be a good sign.)
