Dumb and Dumber

[Update: The Yankee is doing a liveblog of this game. And I might be contributing there a bit myself, since his sobriety is liable to be a bit questionable…]
It’s hard to really work up a good head of insults about my least favorite team in the NHL, when my Canucks are currently flailing around like a beached whale searching for dinner.
But while the Avs can show off their minty-clean home ice record and that Wonder Rookie of theirs tonight, I figure that at least they’re also forced to exhibit the dumber mascot.
(Canucks fans deserve to feel moderately superior about something going into this game… but sadly, ‘Fin’ is all I can come up with at the moment.)

Fin: Lean and mean, ready to take the dog-boy down.
Just too bad the whale can’t play.
Note:
One cool thing about the Avs’ Howler—he does look a lot like an Avalanche fan… very true to life.

I agree, the Avalanche jerseys look totally rotten. Avs fans hate them in general.
But, as for mascots, at least the Avs’ Howler has something to do with the team. The Canucks aren’t even owned by Orca Bay anymore and they’re still using that silly whale logo and mascot. Combined with the unnecessary reminder of what city they’re from, their jerseys are a cluttered mess. At least they got the color scheme right.
Great play by Luongo last night. He really put the hammer down in the second and third periods, despite allowing three goals. He had help, though. The Avalanche defense played like crap the whole game.

Excuse me for pointing out something that i’m sure you seasoned Canucks fans have already parsed, but, you guys speak French, right? Doesn’t “Fin” in French mean “The End”? What is it you guys are trying to say? It’s the end of mediocrity? Impotence? The longest run in the NHL for a team without its name on the Stanley Cup?*
*DISCLAIMER - This statement hasn’t been vetted for accuracy because the author was too busy rewinding his 2000 Cup video to the scene where Ray’s boy cries as he lifts the Cup.

Baroque— I like the “dumb as a sheepdog” comparison. Plus, like you, I don’t dislike the Canucks jerseys as much as I did at first.
Joe— Such a diplomatic comment… polite and yet still managing to throw a few insults into the mix. Gotta love you feisty Avs fans. ![]()
DC— Feel free to parse “Fin” immediately after you parse “Howler”, okay? Because right now “howler” is bringing back memories of you right around the time the Avs took an extended summer break and watched the entire playoffs from their sofas last season.
I can still remember the screaming…

Alanah - I was at the game and it was a good show by the Sedinbots. Luongo looked pretty strong though he gave up some gigantic rebounds.
I believe the Avs actually retired Howler. He hasn’t been at games in years. I never forgave him for taking my Wings hat of my head and using it in a very disgusting manner (think toilet paper).

hockeychic— Howler is no more??? My God - what did you do to him?
Wow, Wings fans are so devious... now you guys are offing the mascots!

Hmmm, I am innocent, I tell you, innocent. Just don’t take a shovel to the dirt in my backyard.

So, “hiding the bodies” is one of your hobbies, then?

Yes we Avs fans HATE the new jerseys… HATE with a passion.
You Canucks fans are so silly, you hate us, but I just can’t work up too much bile for the Canucks anymore.
Enjoy your win in Colorado, I guess a November regular season win counts as a big win for Canucks fans

“Howler” looks just like my aunt’s late Old English Sheepdog, Sandor. Friendly, but one of the dumbest dogs on the planet.
Nice win to give Colorado their first taste of losing at home. Luongo played very well.
The Colorado jerseys look worse every time I see them. Vancouver’s, on the other hand, keep looking better. I give credit to the lack of piping.
