Give Me Trevor Linden for Valentine’s Day

Or at least give him to someone deserving. It’s the gift your girl will never forget: Trevor Linden. From Metro Vancouver:
He’s a married man, but for one afternoon two of Trevor Linden’s many admirers will get the chance to call the former Canuck their own.
Linden will be auctioning himself off for a Valentine’s date at Six Degrees Of Separation, an annual charity gala that raises money for Special Olympics Canada. The event will be held at the Commodore Ballroom on Saturday night.
If someone wants to bid on him for me, I’d be ever-grateful. I’ll use the time to gently ‘encourage’ him (leaving no marks...) towards to his inevitable coaching career.
Linden needs to quit fighting it: You’ve got to figure he’ll be coming back to the Canucks sooner or later, in one form or another, so why delay destiny?

Yeah, I’m sold. But if you’re bringing Pat Quin into it, I say make him coach and give Trevor a couple years as assistant. That would be perfect. And maybe figure out a way to stir Cliff Ronning into the mix, for fun.

Is that all? Man… I was gonna throw in a bid for you, but only if you took a video camera and pounced on him like a rabid wolverine.

I think thats a great idea. Trev as assistant, Pat as coach.
We can surely win 1 of the slots with Trev for you Alanah. The rules are these though.
1. You get 10 mins to yourself with Trev. Just to get him relaxed and lull him into a false sense of security.
2. Then its down to your powerpoint skills to show why he has to comeback.
3. If that doesnt work, we get the thumb screws out and spotlight in his face.
In all seriousness, Trev will come back in some shape or form. Personally I think its a little too early. I think he needs a couple of years away to persue his interests, both business and personal. A chance to re-charge his hmself, if that makes sense.
I give you this comparison. The soccer team Liverpool had there most successful period when they promoted and nurtured coachs and managers from within. Guys that were Liverpool FC through and through and had the club in there heart over many years.
Maybe, just maybe, the Canucks are the same sort of team. Maybe we need the true Canucks.

Jes -- I’ll do it. Set me up!
Steve-UK I like your rules… except I might just skip the powerpoint and get right to the thumb screws.

Woot! I’ve convinced you, haven’t I?
Linden as head coach and Scott Mellanby and Pat Quinn as assistants. Or, any combination of the three would suffice.
