Blah blah blah… read the rest here. Fortunately, Mr. PPA pulled his head out of his pile of Lawrence Block novels for me, just long enough to sum up that interview with Milana Hejduka in English:
“Sorrowful news: Milan Hejduk says he’s probably retiring (from hockey altogether, not just the NHL) when his Avalanche contract is up in two years. His knee appears to be deteriorating.”
HeyDuke? Deteriorating? Breaking down? And all at the cost of $8 million to the Avs over the next two years? Alas, that would be such a shame.
And yet strangely, I’m not as sad as my PPA friend. Go figure. 
P.S. The hockey card is mine, part of a series I created during the 2006 Playoffs. That was when my fu#@&!ing bastard team Vancouver Canucks were sent golfing for the first time in 6 years, and so I had plenty of time on my hands.
And clearly, the bitterness to fuel it. But dammit, I still think that card stands the test of time…
P.P.S. (Update 10:15pm PT):
Since it appears that nearly every Avs fans who comments on this post—with the exception of Greg (i.e. who is also Mr. PPA, who did the translation for me, up above) and the always-friendly Shane of the Colorado Avalanche Talk blog—seems to have no sense of humor, I thought I should add that I am actually a fan of Hejduk. The hockey card was a joke (TWO YEARS AGO!) and not a freakin’ political statement against the guy.
Good God, why must so many hockey fans be so uptight??

Am I a ‘mean’ girl? Never!! (Although I must add: the reason that Avalanche fans behaved better at the prospect of Linden’s retirement probably means they just didn’t know who he was...)
P.S. You may have that monstrosity, but the rest of the hockey fan world will always have this...

I think that the “News” should be reported and then you can make your biased comments here in the comment board. Its just not professional. Thats why god created comment boards. So we can flame each other AFTER the news is shared.

Ha, that video reminds me of the good old days, back when ESPN still admitted that there was a sport named hockey, and that there are fans in the USA. Anyway that hockey card of yours is a little Pensblogish.

Pretty damn sad that a Canucks fan has to use old footage of the Redwings vs. Avs to attempt to denigrate the Avalanche.
What, didn’t your vaunted Canucks ever do anything in their own right?
Oh yeah there was that incident with Todd Bertuzzi attacking the Avalanche player, Steve Moore. Now that was a thing all Canucks fans seem very proud of!

I think the offseason heat is making everyone cranky. Either that, or they all (except Greg and Shane) have PMS.
I think the hockey card is funny.
I’m also sad to hear that Hejduk is having knee problems. He’s a fun player to watch, and knees are just the most annoying joint in the body.
However, is this a legit news source, or the “Sundin is for sure going to Vancouver!” level of journalism? It might not be as bad as they think. Or say. Or say they are thinking, or something.

Baroque - Unfortunately, PMS might explain the creation of that card as well. (I can’t remember for sure, but it doesn’t seem like much of a stretch!)
Jibblescribbits - Exactly true. I just try to pretend images like that one don’t exist by staring at dumb fake hockey cards and imagining Denver turning into a pile of rubble…
Mike & Doogie - Point taken. I’ll return to my regularly-scheduled Oilers bashing as soon as possible. (Well, as long as Doogie doesn’t ever again force me to imagine Luongo in an Oilers jersey… *shiver*. That sort of idea just incapacitates me.)
