Jacking Tacos

Sometimes, Nashville makes it too easy to give them a hard time. (Not to suggest anyone should stop—really, it’s sort of fun.) But tonight’s Canucks/Predators game has serious undertones when you look at the standings, and despite how well Vancouver has been playing suddenly, Nashville isn’t a team to look past.
But—despite my initial intention to dwell on these worrisome, stressful aspects of the evening—I somehow got distracted by tacos. Yeah. Tacos. Specifically, 9,000 or so Nashville fans chanting, “We want ta-cos! We want ta-cos!’’ the other night.
Hard to understand how anyone makes fun of Nashville under the circumstances, isn’t it? Oh, and full points to Melt Your Face Off who concluded: “Hockey + Tacos = Hackos?” (Yum...)
Anyway, that hallowed hockey ritual from the great state of Tennessee has returned:
When the Predators scored for the fourth time during Tuesday’s victory over Edmonton, it prompted a familiar chant from Sommet Center fans anxious for one more goal:
“We want ta-cos! We want ta-cos!’’
The Taco Bell promotion, which gives fans a free taco if the Predators score at least five goals, has been a very popular and prominent part of Nashville’s home games over the years.
The ritual left Nashville for a while when the Taco Bell sponsors felt they weren’t getting enough love from the Predators organization. But now it’s back and I suppose Canucks fans should at least hope that Luongo doesn’t give them reason to feed Tennessee anymore fast food.
(Not to mention: 5 goals against Luongo? Those aren’t games I wanna see.)
Anyway, all this fuss about tacos, I wonder if something like this might inspire the next Predators jersey...?

After all, this is the same team that was once compelled to produce this monstrosity…
(Alright, enough about tacos. That photo is making me hungry.)
Next up is a performance by Jordin Tootoo who did his bit to promote his team on Jack FM. And to be fair, Tootoo is a pretty good sport here, but those Jack FM boys took full advantage of it.
And so.., it didn’t go very well.
(I, however, thoroughly enjoyed it.)
Sorry Nashville—I couldn’t help myself. Your team is too much fun to pick on.

Hiya Bethany. Glad you enjoyed it. It was funny… but I almost felt sorry for Tootoo!
Incidentally, I should note tonight that the Predators arena is a lot louder and fuller than I ever remember it being before.
“And why is that?” (you all ask)
Well, it’s $2 beer night.
Screw the tacos… $2 beer night might be the best NHL team promotional idea EVER.
