Having taken some crap from an Avalanche fan the other day for this embarrassment, I was delighted to see an opportunity to return the favor this morning.
As my friend said, “sometimes the jokes just write themselves.” Indeed. But if we’re really lucky, the Denver Post’s Adrian Dater will write them for you:

A lot of Avalanche fans lost their hats for nothing the other night.When Ryan Smyth scored in the shootout, hats rained onto the Pepsi Center ice, but they shouldn’t have.
C’mon now, Avs fans - you knew that goals scored in a shootout don’t count toward a player’s official overall goal stats. Right?
‘Nuff said.

Touché. But alas, we know they don’t.
What we really wish is that little gary and his band of selectively blind zebras would stop tilting the ice with phantom and non-calls, and let the boys play.

Not the classiest of stunts by the fans in Colorado, perhaps just their special way of welcoming Smitty to town, albeit in bad taste.
I certainly wouldn’t waste my lid on a shootout hatty.

Tapeleg -- Great minds think alike. But you gotta have a sense of humor about this stuff!
YzermanZetterberg -- Avs trash talk is perfectly acceptable around here (as is Wings and Canucks trash talk, for that matter). Complaining about the officiating is for people who have no imagination.
