Mats Sundin Needs His Sleep; Computer Hackers Disagree

The Vancouver Sun has honored us with possibly the least flattering Canucks headline in recent history: “Canucks Explore the Science of Sleep”

Which sounds like last season, but no… it’s actually just the team’s travel schedule, according to GM Mike Gillis:

“[We] are doing everything possible to to travel as well as we can. To that end, we’re bringing in a company called Global Fatigue Management to look at all our players and their sleep habits and how we travel, and try to help us design the best possible schedule that we can come up with to keep our players fresh.”

He also says that the Canucks travel schedule is a notable part of why Mats Sundin hasn’t yet snapped up the $10 million the team has budgeted for him this season.

“That’s the big inhibitor from what Mats ... from when I spoke to him, the only thing that he thought might be not a positive thing with Vancouver,” said Gillis, who is hoping the consulting firm can help “remove the stigma that is attached to our travel schedule.”

I went to Global Fatigue Management’s website tonight and made a strange discovery when I followed the link to their “sleep and fatigue analysis” .PDF file: the site had just been hacked by some dude named “Smallw0rm” declaring that “The Ottoman Empire was here!”

Man, oh man… even the freakin’ Ottoman Empire is fu*&ing with my team?

I wish I was only making this up, but here’s the screenshot. The small print at the bottom of the page reads: “this is not hack. Just a OTTOMAN-EMPIRE Turkish Cyber Security Group"s Manifesto..! Ok? Bye...”

Sweet geezus.  This team might be cursed.

Translated that comes out to...Mats wants to spend every night at home with his blankie or he won’t paly. Poor baby. Having palyed in the East, he’s accustomed to never being more than one night away from his beddie-bye at home and I guess he didn’t think his delicate constitution could handle being on the road for a whole week for a measly $10,000,000 a year.

The day Marian “I’m All About Winning” Hossa signed with the Wings for a “discount” and removed this fricking prima donna from the mix was a blessing from above.

At this point, I hope “Sunny” signs with the “new age” Canucks. It’ll be just one more guarantee that the Wings will be the ultimate victors in the West.

Good point.
Think about this:  Fans are booing Marian Hossa because he joined the team he wanted to play for, giving up money to do it.
They will cheer for Sundin if / when he returns, motivated mostly by money.
What is wrong with this picutre?

I like the idea of doing research on travel/ sleep; the Wings should do this too. We were very very fortunate last year during the playoffs.

Be fair, OTC: He’s a newlywed - or engaged, at least - and have you seen his lady?  If you had that waiting for you every night, wouldn’t you want to be back home as much as possible?  LOL

(But I’m not a guy, so I’m guessing here - and for all I know she might have the mental acuity of a soggy potato chip.  She seems to be pretty stereotypically pretty, though, and most men like that.)

He wouldn’t be the first person who lost some motivation for something (sports, art, music, going to class) when he got involved in a steady relationship.

He’s not doing exactly what I want him to do!  BOOOOO!!!  smile

I’m not that impressed with Sundin’s girlfriend.

But maybe it’s a girlfriend that’s keeping Forsberg home too.

If anyone should be staying home with his girlfriend, it should be Hank. smile

There is a huge community of hackers in Turkey that do nothing more than stunts like this.  My blog was hacked by something similar about three years ago.  I don’t get it other than just being able to show of that you hacked a site.  You would think that if you’re that good, you’d go after things that actually gain you something… like money.

@ OTC:  That’s why I said she was stereotypically pretty.  Looks pretty average to me, but what do I know?  Maybe Sundin isn’t all that selective.

That’s really odd.  Maybe they figure that if they don’t take anyone’s money no one will be interested in stopping them, so they will be less likely to get in trouble?

Or They find Turkey really, really boring.

lol WUUUUT????
I personally think Sundin is still going back to Toronto. Lots of teams are still in the hunt, but nothing makes more sense to me than toronto.
I wrote up a summary of who is interested and where he might end up.
My thoughts. http://jib-sports-culture.blogspot.com/
