A friend of mine is a die-hard baseball fan but not so enamored with regular-season hockey. However the playoffs are a whole different story for him and he sent me this comment in an email a couple months ago. I was cleaning out my in-box and thought I’d share it. Just found it both amusing and rather accurate…
“The problem with hockey’s stretch run is… there’s not whole lot of suspense… There’s no real sense of urgency because so many teams make it. Once the tournament starts, it’s a different story, but hockey’s got some dog days in February and March.
“What hockey needs to do is make portions of the ice dangerously thinner and put a tank of sharks underneath. Oh, and make sure no one who didn’t win more games than they lost can make the playoffs.”

About Canucks & Beyond
Alanah McGinley has been blogging hockey since 2003 (with a notable gap in time through 2010, kicking it with new baby Lucy while living knee-deep in chaos while reading “parenting for complete idiots” during every spare minute) sharing opinions, rants and not-so-deep thoughts with anyone who will listen.
In addition to writing Canucks & Beyond and helping manage Kukla’s Korner, Alanah was one of the founders and co-hosts of The Crazy Canucks Podcast. She has contributed pieces to FoxSports.com and the New York Times Slapshot blog, as well as other stray destinations in cyberspace.
So that’s me. Who the hell are you? ![]()
