Mike Keenan Joins the Canucks?

For real? Joe O’Connor of the National Post runs this opening paragraph…

The media release from Sherry Quan was brief, detailed and to the point: Michael Keenan was joining a team in Vancouver. Strangely, there was no mention of Canucks coach Alain Vigneault in the release, and not a word said about how Roberto Luongo, the Canucks netminder, who had a somewhat rocky relationship with the NHL bench boss known as Iron Mike while the pair were in Florida together with the Panthers, might react to him joining the squad.

Not that I’m a huge Vigneault fan, but sweet geezus, this is a terrifying turn of events!

Or is it?

More from the National Post story:

Michael Keenan comes with some solid credentials — and 28 years of experience — and, wait, Michael Keenan is not the Mike Keenan we know. And he is not selling his coaching philosophy to the Canucks. But he will be selling something for Avison Young-Vancouver, a commercial real estate brokerage.

“Michael is an important addition to our growing organization,” the release read.

Michael Keenan, it seems, has a new job. Mike Keenan, fired after Calgary flamed out in the playoffs, is still waiting for the phone to ring.

Praise Jesus, and pass the tequila. That was a narrow escape. (I was a heart-beat away from becoming an Avalanche fan, or somesuchinsanity.)

Bad National Post. Not funny at all…

I’m not even a Canucks fan and that had me worried… what a horrible way to toy with a fan’s emotions.

That large “thud” you heard was Luongo’s head smacking his PC monitor.

Now, if only we could get Mark Messier back again, we’d have a real Stanley Cup contender on our hands! wink

Keenan should get a gig with TV again…cuz I just can’t see anyone hiring him again after two complete failures with Florida and Calgary.

What a sick sick story. Funny? Not so much. I knew there was a reason I never read the National Post. Keenan can stay with commentary. The NHL would be better off that way honestly.

I do really think Calgary was his last go at coaching. He’s a tough guy to work with and most GM’s won’t hire him for that reason. I wish him well as a commentator.

most great coaches keep coaching,

they don’t retire, they just take time off
