Petty Disputes & Goalie Aggravations

A mild disagreement.  As a Wings fan, Kukla is convinced this cover for the latest edition of The Hockey News looks great:

But I’ve proposed what I think is a reasonable, much more interesting alternative for a future editions.  Perhaps THN will be able to bank it for later…

Looks like a bestselling edition to me! smile

Childish, but what the hell.  It’s a slow news day, and being outnumbered by Detroit fans around here, I figure someone needs to counter the propaganda.

Besides, it’s better than thinking too much about that Canucks game in St Louis last night

Speaking of which, it appears that signing Curtis Sanford last summer didn’t go far enough—apparently the Canucks need to buy up every damn goalie that ever plays for that team; they ALL seem to hold some sort of secret voodoo powers.

And next up are the Chicago Blackhawks, who will arrive at GM Place on Sunday with their own good news goalie:

‘’He looked so comfortable, so confident,’’ goaltender coach Stephane Waite said of Khabibulin’s last two outings. ‘’He’s found his comfort zone.’’

Oh, great.

(*but on the bright side, at least I can start drinking again...)

Good stuff, especially when spiked (yes, drinking reference) with jealousy and fear gulp

I’m petrified that the fame and attention will get to him but he’s such a relaxed guy that it doesn’t seem to have done anything. I also think Z is equally proud of his defensive skills, especially in contrast to the Kid and other leading scorers.

I used to have a Sega Genesis and play EA’s NHL95 on it. Despite my loyalties, I played as Vancouver just so that I could play as Pavel Bure!!  ohhh...the past oh oh

I just can’t figure out what motivated this piece.

Was it a case of:

Your Swedes are better than ours

or

Your closet admiration for Cheli, and your all pissed because they picked the wrong player..?

w2j2 -- Never would I want to hurt another hockey fan! (oh, okay… that’s a lie...)

srt -- Not “jealousy and fear"… perhaps envy & irritation describes it better. Sigh.

HockeyTown Todd -- I need a reason to do such things? Good god, since when?!

Actually, I am fond of Swedish hockey players in general, even your team’s.  As for my “closet admiration for Cheli”, that’s just cruel. I’ve never said anything nearly that mean-spirited to you… smile

Just because you like the Canucks, a team I’m not keen about, and I like the Wings, a team you’re not keen about, doesn’t mean I don’t think that you’re anything less than very, very cool.  smile

I’ll second that, George.

Actually I kind of like the Canucks.

Damn Wings fans—when you start acting classy it screws up my rhythm!

(Thanks, guys. Very nice of you...) smile

Swedish hockey players are awesome.

Anyone who owns a bookstore is very very cool.  I could never do that (I’d never want to sell any of the books, so I’d go broke in very short order).

And it can’t be Chelios on the cover: I heard rumors that he was working on an exclusive deal with the AARP.  smile

Well, rather a lot of books do manage to get adopted permanently!

In fact at this point, my house looks like something like a combination computer center, sports memorabilia junk shop, and bookstore.  Chaos reigns all around… smile
