Plea to Gary Bettman

Thanks to an email from J.J. at Canucks Hockey Blog, I was moved to reprint this open letter in the Vancouver Sun:
Gary Bettman, NHL Commissioner

New York, NY 10036Mr. Bettman,
More than 2,200 Vancouver Sun readers have spoken and implore you to alter National Hockey League rules to allow Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo to wear the ‘C’ as the team’s captain. The Canucks have named him their leader, on and off the ice, and we join fans of the team, and the league, in requesting you address this matter with the utmost urgency so he can finish the season recognized by the league as the team’s captain.
Enclosed in this package is a collection of names we received online. A reply would be appreciated as soon as possible so we can let fans know your response to this burning issue.

Well, why not? (Wait, don’t answer that! Just be a good sport and sign...) 
The petition—which you can add your name to here—will be presented to the NHL offices in New York on Tuesday.

For crying out loud, the world won’t stop on its axis if a goaltender wears a C as the captain. It’s a stupid and archaic rule - I say give the letter to him.
And I think it would be hilarious if he took the ceremonial faceoffs, too. It isn’t as though anyone needs any real ability in winning faceoffs - I think those things are fixed.

It’s a shame they couldn’t make that url more “shareable” on facebook, if you “share link” on facebook it doesn’t quote the page or include a picture, seems rather sillyu.
