On playing against Marian Hossa: “There’s nothing I’d like more than to be able to shake Marian’s hand at the end of this series, look him in the eye and say, ‘You chose the wrong team.’”
—Maxime Talbot (translated from French and quoted in the Detroit Free Press)
Ah, the joy of ‘friendly’ competition in the playoffs, where one of the more entertaining pleasures for us outsiders is the good-natured trash talk between the teams and fans.
But still, two dudes named Maxime vs Marian going at it? I keep flashing on rival Barbie dolls about to end up in a celebrity boxing reality show.

Way to give Hossa…and the rest of the Wings…some motivation Talbot. Thanks.

I never bought into the fact that the Wings “won it for Drake” last year. I’d considered it even less likely that “winning it for Hossa” was a realistic motivation.
But I’m starting to think it might play a role, not a big one, but at least an emotional factor.
Hossa’s a popular guy in the room, by all accounts. His teammates respect why he’s in Detroit.
Talbot’s an idiot. He actually sounds like a Pen fan, which is idiocy defined.

“L’esprit de l’escalier.”
Nice. I give full points for usage of obscure French idioms!
And you’re right about the salary choices the Pens essentially had to make, but still, I bet Talbot enjoys thinking about such a moment, regardless.

Jesus Christ, give me a break. Put yourself in Talbot’s shoes, you wouldn’t find that satisfying? You’re sounding like a Flyers’ fan.
I understand your complaints on other issues, but this one is just stupid. He’s not asking the fans to boo Hossa (or anything of the sort), if that was the case I’d agree with your statement, but he’s not, so you are stupid. I thought earlier today you said you were done with the stupidity.

Yeah. I was done for a few minutes. That’s my limit. Sorry to disappoint you.

Does anyone actually read and comprehend the various source links associated with some of the blog entries?
There’s absolutely nothing remotely controversial or stupid about Talbot’s comments.

Hossa has 6 goals in the playoffs. What’s the chances he steps up? Or more likely he squeezes the stick and chokes.
Okay, okay, a guy can dream. He is a beast even when not scoring. But folks are kidding themselves if they think every Penguin wouldn’t relish wiinning and shaking his hand after he made public his reason for signing with Detroit. Even if it were true at the time you take it personally.

Talbot is an idiot. He should keep his mouth shut. The Wings can post his idiotic statement on their wall and motivate the team and Hossa.
Mitchell motivated Kane with his comments and I don’t see this as anything different.
Think we/they can’t run his french through a translator? FOOL!

Wouldn’t Hossa’s salary have made it impossible for Pens to acquire Kunitz, Guerin, Boucher…
So maybe the Pens don’t even make it to the Finals if Hossa had stayed. Hossa obviously chose wisely since the team he chose is in the finals. Maybe Talbot should worry about the actual games instead of his L’esprit de l’escalier.
