From Ben Kuzma at The Province:
The Canucks have a plan in place when the call comes that Luongo is about to become a father when his wife, Gina, gives birth back in Florida to a girl. She is due the first week of April and the team finishes its regular-season schedule with games at GM Place on March 30 and April 1, 3 and 5. Which, of course, makes it interesting and brings us back to Sanford.
Babies in April… bloody hell, that’s irritating. Perhaps someone should start a “Please Knock Up Your Wife October-January Only” policy for NHL teams?
Just a random thought (albeit a rude one). But still… something to consider for the next round of CBA negotiations.

Before you ask, Alanah, no, the Flames will not be starting Cujo if the Canucks are required to start Sanford.
By the way, all the best to Bobby Lou and Gina and I hope all goes well with the pending delivery.

Agreed, babies should be included in contracts… maybe a no offspring clause, or no bumping-uglies-the-week-before-training-camp clause.
On the other hand, you could start seeing players use this as a heavy bargaining tool. “You don’t want to pay me at least triple what I’m worth, a no-trade clause, a condo on the eastside of North Van, and a completely insane contract extension which doesn’t make sense for me or the franchise? Fine, I’ll make sure my wife spits out a small purple playoff jeopardizer during the first round.”

Laker— I see a new nickname for Sanford in the near future: Upon his return from obscurity (and after his first jaw-dropping save) he shall hereby be known as “The Fighter Jet.” As in “the Fighter Jet swoops in for another save!”
Can’t you hear Hughson saying it? I can. ![]()
dash— Why not? It could be fun: CuJo vs CuSa!
LOUiE— I can’t believe you said that…

I remember leaving a comment on this very blog abotu that back when Louie missed a few games around the All Star game to be with his wife.
I can remember thinking…the Canucks sure as heck had better have a spot clinched up by the time that kid arrives.
If the Canucks are all clinched up and ready to go, there isn’t any reason why Louie couldn’t miss a few games. And…the NHL had better watch out while the leagues best goaltender has even MORE motivation to kick ass during the playoffs.

Hah! Alanah, that gave me the laugh I needed after a night of philosophy homework. Bwahahahahahaha!!!

Expat— You did mention it, I remember now. But I can’t help but thinking there was never any chance the Canucks were going to have a playoff spot locked up by this time.
That would have been way too easy. ![]()
Keith— I almost failed college philosophy, a first year class called “Logical Reasoning” (I kid you not). I find it strangely satisfying that now I write stuff that can be considered the antidote to that old nightmare of mine. Thanks!

I was expecting to read that they had Canadian fighter jet on standby (they DO have some jets you know!) Or maybe even a private high speed jet on standby or something cool like that.
Not just, uh Sandford will play. To funny. The media in a hockey crazed town eh.
