Politics & Hockey—The Fun Way

When politics and hockey collide, it’s seldom interesting, fun or even all that rational. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised to discover a new candidate had entered the American political arena—one who, in his own words, “isn’t afraid to dig in the corners and make goalies wet their pants.”
It’s Pierre, the Phoenix Coyotes own mascot with the bad French accent and a plan for exactly nothing.
But that hasn’t stopped him from campaigning…
His website is Pierre08.com—currently I’m having trouble accessing it, but it might just be my computer. If not, I’m sure they’ll fix any issues shortly.
It is silly? Sure. But the Coyotes have a great track record for producing clever promotions and fun media for their online fans that plenty of the more entrenched old-school hockey markets could learn from. (Off the top of my head, I’d say some other ‘unconventional’ hockey markets with a gift for clever promotions would be the Los Angeles Kings and Dallas Stars.)
Anyway, for your audio download entertainment, here is one of Pierre’s “attack” ads and here is an interview with the unusual political candidate.
Below are some bumper stickers.

Fin is a scary dude to a kid, I’d think. All those teeth. But that Pierre guy is awesome.
Then again, I don’t have kids… I have no idea what might terrorize a child.

About Canucks & Beyond
Alanah McGinley has been blogging hockey since 2003 (with a notable gap in time through 2010, kicking it with new baby Lucy while living knee-deep in chaos while reading “parenting for complete idiots” during every spare minute) sharing opinions, rants and not-so-deep thoughts with anyone who will listen.
In addition to writing Canucks & Beyond and helping manage Kukla’s Korner, Alanah was one of the founders and co-hosts of The Crazy Canucks Podcast. She has contributed pieces to FoxSports.com and the New York Times Slapshot blog, as well as other stray destinations in cyberspace.

lol I hope you’ve got on the website by now as it’s actually pretty cool
but, my, that’s one ugly mascot!
I’ve only seen one Coyotes game and that was at GM Place - thankfully they didn’t bring him with them as I think he might have frightened my son!
Having said that, Fin made him jump too
