Sources tell TSN that Vancouver Canucks forward Jeff Cowan has been suspended one game for his hit to the head on Detroit’s Derek Meech.
The incident occurred in the first period of the Canucks victory over the Red Wings on Saturday night.
I was watching this game in a bar (shocking, I know) and didn’t actually see the hit in question. Was a suspension warranted? Looking for video…
Update 8:00pm PT: I should note that Cowan was quoted on Sportsnet television last night stating that he himself felt his hit was too high when he looked at it, and took responsibility for that.

No, they certainly weren’t right about that, which is why I didn’t highlight that point (and was also careful to “report” in the title of the post).
Now I guess we can all sit back and take bets to see how long it takes TSN to notice their error…

He deserves the suspension, the hit was dirty.

The hit was a bit high. It wasn’t outrageous though. Certainly deserved a penalty, not sure a suspension though.
Cowan was probably destined for the press box anyways.
