St. Patrick’s NHL VOTE

imageIf anyone would like to help settle an argument—I made the observation yesterday that Rory Fitzpatrick is CLEARLY the most Irish name in the NHL.  I was surprised when Kukla promptly shot this down with “Forget that. It’s Brendan Shanahan! Don’t you forget it!”  (Insanity.)

But what do you think? Is it Fitizpatrick or Shanahan? Or is it someone else altogether?

Who drinks the most green beer?!!

Gotta go with LA Kings centerman, Patrick O’Sullivan.

And don’t forget NHL Referee, O Danny Boy O’Halloran.

Oh, and Owen Nolan was actually born in Ireland—Dublin, I believe—if that matters.

Uh oh. Well, I’ll ignore the referee (on principle) and maybe just arbitrarily disqualify anyone with the first name “Patrick”? That’s gotta be too easy—an unfair advantage! wink

But Owen Nolan being BORN in Ireland makes him a serious candidate for contention.  And from Belfast, no less. Don’t know how I forgot about him…

Shean Donovan, Sean O’Donnell, Ryan Shannon.

Of those mentioned, Patrick O’Sullivan gets my vote.

Belfast it is.

So, if it comes down to a choice between Rory or Shanny, I’ll go with the former Winged Wheeler.  Not because of his connection to my beloved Wings, but because all his votes for All-Star consideration were legitimate. wink

(Hey, if you can arbitrarily rule-out all ‘Patricks,’ I can arbitrarily throw other disqualifiers into the mix). smile

Damn. Too many bloody Irishmen in the mix now. C’mon people, the name “Rory” MUST earn special consideration!

I was surprised nobody mentioned Patrick O’Sullivan before but glad to see he wasn’t forgotten.

He gets my vote. You don’t get more Irish-y than that.

I’m sticking with Danny O’Halloran, but the old school side of me wants to pick Peanuts O’Flaherty.

Rory Fitzpatrick sounds a lot more Irish than Brendan Shanahan.

Have to go with the guy who had the Irish Jig played after each goal.  That would be Brrrrendan Shhhannnah’an.

Not only is Rory Fitzpatrick more Irish, but it’s more All-Star as well.

It has to be Shanny, I mean for god’s sake they even played the Irish Jig when he scored.  Shanny will be the the poster boy for the Irish.  If you look up Irish Hockey Players int he dictionary you will see his picture.

Has No-one realised? From Pitt Meadows, B.C, I give you…Brendan Morrison!!!

“Alexander O’Vechkin” is the best Rory contender on this list.  Scary I never thought of it myself.

Johan— Brendan Morrison is a good thought, but then I’d have to admit that “Shanahan” trumps the Irishness of “Morrison.”  Better we just disregard the name Brendan altogether. smile

...there were those two gay Irish hockey players…Patrick Fitzhenry and Henry Fitzpatrick…

Shanny takes it…but Terry O’Reilly is the All-Timer!

I hereby suspend this vote. I think my name is actually the most freakishly-Irish of them all: Alanah McGinley Downie.

Sure, I’m not an NHL hockey player, but must we get all caught up in petty, technical details? I think not.

So, I win! grin

I’m Scottish (Robertson), so I don’t think I’m allowed to vote.
