The Hives, Existentialist Hockey and a Song

From Pitchfork:
We know damn well that Sweden’s Hives rule the live stage, but what about the ice rink?
Determined to find out, the photogenic fivesome journeyed late last week from one frozen northerly land to another, Canada (where, okay, they also happened to be touring), to put a hockey challenge before three Swedish members of the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks.
And more from Canadian Recording Services:
Swedish rock band The Hives came through Vancouver on Friday, Feb 22nd to play the Commodore. But before their big show they stopped in to GM Place for a hockey game with Swedish Canucks Alex Edler, Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
The game went great, with the Canucks narrowly pulling away with the 6-5 victory. This boost of confidence no doubt was the reason for their big win over the league leading Detroit Red Wings the next night.
The event was coordinated by Canadian Recording Services. Though we usually only hook up bands with recording studios, producers, rehearsal space and accommodations....we were happy to help with The Hives request.
In the picture above is Pelle, Chris and Vigilante from the Hives, Alexander Edler, Jordan Birch of CRS, Nicke from the Hives, Daniel and Henrik Sedin and Matt from the Hives.
From Overheard at the Office, a conversation in California this week:
Male worker #1, after a meeting: Wanna play hockey?
Female worker: Where’s the goal?
Male worker #1: This is existential hockey. There is no goal. You win when you decide you’ve won.
Female worker: Okay. I’ve won, then.
Male worker #1: Okay.
Male worker #2: They always win.
Male worker #1: That’s true. We can’t win. We’re really not even playing for the same stakes, are we?
Indeed. I always win.
A big thanks to Chris for sending me the Pitchfork link. Here’s my favorite Hives tune to wake up him—and all the rest of us—this Friday morning.
