The Minors Love Their Fans

Clearly such an event wouldn’t work in an NHL game—and I’m glad, because it would get annoying for sure. But I love the idea that minor league teams are at least open to different things for their fans.
To explain, there’s a BCHL game/wedding on Vancouver Island on Friday night:
The jersey didn’t get an invite to the wedding, but starting Clippers goaltender Marc Cheverie did. He’ll have the honours of delivering the rings to centre ice during the wedding vows while both teams look on from the benches. It could be his best assist of the season.
David Sales, executive director of the BCHL, said he doesn’t recall a wedding taking place before a game in the BCHL, but Chilliwack Chiefs trainer Cam Janzen was married between periods last season at a Chiefs game.
“We certainly don’t mind anything that is fun and unique like a wedding,” said Sales.
“Anybody who wants to get married at one of our games because they are a big fan is fine with us.”
The ceremony, which will include a rendition of The Wedding March as Scott makes her way from the penalty box to centre ice, will take six minutes, nestled nicely between warm-up and game time.
Maybe everyone else thinks this is cheezy, but I think it’s kind of cute. So shoot me.

Of course it is cheesy, but that’s exactly what makes it so cool. Imagine that—a couple with a wedding photo album/video that their friends will actually want to see for a change!

J.J.— No way Tracy would’ve taken Pyatt over you, JJ. I guarantee it. A girl likes a guy who wears less makeup than she does…
Baroque— Excellent point. It will make a great wedding video!

Aw, I think it’s cute too! Sure beats the schmucks who merely propose in the rink

I asked Tracy once if she wanted us to get married during a Canucks game. No luck.
(Probably a good thing. She would have dumped me for Taylor Pyatt.)
