The Trevor Linden Special

A lot of Trevor Linden content around this week as we prepare to see his jersey retired tomorrow night at GM Place. You can check out Craig MacEwan’s piece at Sportsnet.ca today; mine (mentioned yesterday) at NHL.com; and of course, many, many others around the blogosphere.
Tonight, Canucks.com is airing a special featuring panelists Barry MacDonald, Dean Linden, Kirk McLean and Norm Jewison. The crew will share their own thoughts on Linden as well as answer fans’ questions sent in by video. (*Which includes me, theoretically, although I’m not totally sure; I botched up things up initially and they requested another video today, which may have arrived too late for them to use. C’est la vie!)
Anyway, the show will be available during the 8pm PT live broadcast on the player embedded below.
Broadcast starts at 8pm PST.

Update 8:04pm PT: Player fixed and the broadcast is now live.
Update 9:01pm PT—Live broadcast is over: Well, they didn’t do any of the fan questions for the show, but I thought it was a great reflection on Linden’s career. If the link above doesn’t work for replaying the round-table, I’ll update it with one that works in a while.
Update Wednesday, 10am: Embedded video above now has the archived video of the original broadcast.

You know, I didn’t think I’d be too affected by this TV special, but only about 10 minutes into this thing, it’s making me flashback on a lot of great years of Linden hockey. And those are pretty good memories.
I guess there’s something about a player retiring that’s sort of similar to person just disappearing entirely. Which isn’t rational, but it still sort of has that effect. 82 games a season, then they’re just… gone. An emotional thing.
Oy. Tomorrow night’s ceremony is going to be very emotional, I think.
