Tops in Trash Talk

Unlike many, I have a soft spot for the prototypical hockey pest. Frequently entertaining, and probably less vicious than the trash-talk that fans unleash on each other most of the time, I figure.
Well, Scott Cruickshank’s article from the Calgary Herald yesterday (link via KK and the NYT Slapshot) provided a rundown on the pest. And looking at his list, it would appear that Vancouver acts as some kind of training ground: two of the top 12 are current Canucks, and two are former.
1. Sean Avery, Rangers Undisputed king/clown of potty-mouthed noise.
2. Alex Burrows, Canucks Loud patter a point of pride for chirping checker.
3. Steve Ott, Stars Pepperpot drives opponents batty with non-stop barbs.
4. Jared Boll, Blue Jackets Freshman fighting plenty, talking even more.
5. Zach Stortini, Oilers Makes up for lack of originality with loud repetition.
6. Corey Perry, Ducks Supplements sneaky antics with sharp tongue.
7. Ryan Kesler, Canucks Speaks up when linemate Burrows takes a breath.
8. Dion Phaneuf, Flames “Does he ever stop talking?” wondered one player.
9. Jordin Tootoo, Predators Battering before the whistle; chattering after it.
10. Jarkko Ruutu, Penguins Knows which buttons to push. Ask Chris Simon.
11. Darcy Tucker, Maple Leafs Older, slower, but still relishes cracking wise.
12. Matt Cooke, Capitals Western Conference happy to see his lip move eastward.
13. Steve Downie, Flyers Brash newcomer sporting rowdy reputation already.
Vancouver’s like some sort of training ground for lunatics.
Which reminds me… I really need a Burrows jersey.

Wow, you are right Van is the center of the banter universe.
I like Kesler’s “Speaks up when linemate Burrows takes a breath”
That’s funny stuff.

Wasn’t Burrows just fantastic last game? Beauty goal, hitting, setting up sweet plays...and probably irritating the other team with French-Canadian-accented taunting as well. Gotta love it.

I love Burrows. Kind of like Ruutu, but just in the way that he seems to be having so much fun while he’s acting maniacal. It’s awesome.

You’ll be living that one down for quite a while.
