Trevor Linden Day

The City of Vancouver has some new proposals on their agenda as noted on Mayor Sam Sullivan’s website:

* Mayor Sullivan proclaim Trevor Linden Day later this year - on a date to be confirmed with the Vancouver Canucks
* The City of Vancouver and the Mayor’s Office work with the Vancouver Canucks to identify other ways to celebrate Trevor Linden
* The City of Vancouver’s Street Naming Committee be encouraged to consider ways to recognize Trevor Linden’s legacy

I’m not crazy about the ‘Trevor Linden Day’ idea, but naming a street after him seems like an obvious choice.

As for other ways to recognize his legacy, I do find the question interesting since I think it’s a sincere one, not just political. It seems like Vancouver fans do want to give back in recognition of his contributions to the city and province, yet don’t quite know how.

Meanwhile, Linden’s name has popped up in association with a new real estate development in Victoria, on Vancouver Island.

A simple investment or future career?

Someone had to ask.

It’s always tough to try and recognize the contributions of anyone when just saying “thank you” seems so inadequate.

Too bad instead of a Trevor Linden Day to recognize the man, they couldn’t have a Trevor Linden Day where everyone is urged to make some kind of charitable committment to help others - have a food drive for the hungry, encourage people to donate needed items to a homeless shelter, or help raise money for a hospital - something to recognize how important charitable works were to him, and something that would provide more lasting effect than naming a street after him, no matter how cool that might be.  I wonder if fans might find it a more satisfying way to pay tribute.

There’s nothing keeping the fans from doing that of their own initiative, though.
