Unconventional Forsberg Diagnosis

The North American press and hockey blogs have spent months analyzing the possible return of Peter Forsberg to the NHL (and often with the kind of reverence usually attributed to the devout contemplating the resurrection of Jesus Christ) but their hopes were sadly interrupted yesterday with the news that Jesus… err… Foppa… hurt his ankle.
But while those same analysts seriously ponder how this travesty could happen—studying the various miscues of Forsberg’s recent career as he’s attempted to regain his health and strength—the Swedish newspapers haven’t been nearly as preoccupied with all the accepted jargon.
They have their own theory about how Forsberg’s career ground to a halt:

Geez, I didn’t even think to look it up in the Swedish/English dictionary. I liked my own interpretation just fine.
Anyway, here’s the definition at that link:
Swedish entry word
slut [slu:t] adj.
indeclinable; only predicative som inte längre finns, förbrukad (figuratively, “exhausted")English translation
over, at an end, finished

I said if this kept up, the end result would be seeing his foot actually fall off on the rink. Someone would have to pick it up and carry it off like the gloves and sticks after a fight.
Although I’m not sure how your theory affects his ankle injury. If he had pulled a groin again I could understand.

Ha! First of all, Baroque, it’s not my theory - blame Sweden! Secondly, an ankle injury isn’t out of the question for this ‘theory’ - you’ve just got to use a little imagination.
(Not that I would advise it… that image may burn into your brain and never leave.)

This reminds me of a boat I once saw on a river in Finland as a kid, the sight of which reduced me and my sister to helpless laughter.
The name painted on the side of the boat was “Fart.”
“Fart” is the Swedish word for “speed.”

“Fart” is the Swedish word for “speed.”
Then I guess we could say that Forsberg’s “fart” is now effectively “slut.”

...that image may burn into your brain and never leave.
I might have to start drinking heavily if I let that happen.
Fortunately, my powers of self-delusion are strong. I’ll be okay.

“Then I guess we could say that Forsberg’s “fart” is now effectively “slut.””
Geez, that’s possibly the best commenter quote ever to hit this blog. I wish I could give a prize for that one…

Not so “fart”, Forsberg says it’s not “Slut”, when he says it’s “slut”.
2008 in Colorado.

This online Swedish to English dictionary sheds even more light on the situation!
Swedish-English Dictionary:Slut
My recommendation:
Nu får det vara slut med fjäskandet. I slutet av veckan, Foppa SHOULD sluta ett avtal TO sluta sig inom sig själv
Or, for those non-fluent Swedish speakers:
Let’s have an end to all this sucking-up. At the end of the week, Forsberg SHOULD enter into an agreement TO retire into one’s shell.
