Vancouver Canucks Sign Brad Isbister and Byron Ritchie (and more…)

After last night’s weirdness on Isbister, the deal is confirmed PLUS the team has also signed Byron Ritchie.

Canucks Press Release:  “Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have signed centre Byron Ritchie and winger Brad Isbister. In keeping with club policy, no financial terms of the deal will be released.”

Update 11:15am PT:  Another FA Signing - Greg Classen
Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have signed free agent centre Greg Classen. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.  Classen, 30, joins the Canucks after spending the 2006-07 with the Hamburg Freezers of the German Hockey League.

Update 11:21am PT: Re-Signing - Brad Moran
Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have re-signed centre Brad Moran. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hmm, do the canucks really need a couple more bottom feeders? Does this mean that there is a trade in the works to dump salary and bring in a big name?

Ritchie is fast and Isbister is big…but neither one addresses the canucks scoring issue. Perhaps AV thinks he can whip these two guys into shape - especially underachieving Isbister. I just don’t get this?

These actually make total sense under the Nonis regeime. With the exception of Luongo and Mitchell, he’s done nothing but find deals where he could (Carter, Pyatt, Bulis) and leave it to the coach to make it work. Of course now he has a Jack Adam’s coach in there so who better (in theory) to make these guys take the next step?

It’s not “sexy” but it makes total sense the way this team is run. Also, keep in mind next year it’ll be Vancouver’s turn to take a run at one of the top UFA’s by being cheap the past few seasons as well as the possibility of Naslund retiring.
