Vancouver vs Detroit: A Graphical Post-Game Analysis

Pretty exciting being a part of a game where two teams fight for the coveted prize of “Whose goal-tending sucks worse?” and discovering—after 60 minutes of straight shoot-outs—that your team wins that contest. Not a great night for Vancouver, and even Red Wings nation had difficulties finding comfort in their win.
For my own post-game analysis, I decided on a carefully-plotted, statistically sensitive chart that would help us all see that game in proper context:

Tonight the Canucks face the Minnesota Wild and I’ll be co-hosting the Liveblog at the Canucks.com Fanzone starting at 5pm, along with a few other people.
But more on that later. For now, perhaps we can just pretend hockey doesn’t exist. How about considering other sports? There’s probably less aggravation and suffering involved in being a Blue Jays fan, for instance.
After all, it’s baseball… I don’t even care who wins as long as the ballpark hotdogs have mustard.

I prefer to think of it less as Detroit having terrible goaltenders and more as the opponents being really good at shooting pucks into the center of a regulation NHL net.
That helps, sort of.

Animal Drew— There is one local team—the Vancouver Canadians. But as far as MLB goes, I imagine most Canadians will back the Jays in a pinch. Although plenty support US teams, too. I know a lot of people out here who are big Seattle Mariners fans. Like you say, it’s a short drive.
And thank you, too, for being a good sport!
HockeyinHD -- A good way to cope. And funny, too…
George -- Thank you. I was definitely going for “refined” and “classy”. You know, my usual thing.

I think most Canadians are willing to jump on the Blue Jay Bandwagon. I am completely apathetic about baseball, and all the Leaf love the CBC gives out hasn’t made me very fond of any sports team based in Toronto, but back in 1993 I remember being at the Pit Pub at UBC and freaking out, along with the rest of my fellow Toronto-hating buddies, when Joe Carter rocked that walk-off home run. Now, I’m back to not caring, but I’ll probably jump back on the bandwagon should the Jays ever make another appearance in the World Series.

Do they have ballparks in Vancouver? And since Toronto is (and correct me if I’m wrong) the only Canadian team left in MLB, does that automatically mean that the handful of Canadians that actually give a hoot about America’s (*dry heave) Passtime root for the Blue Jays?
I’ve actually been considering a move out to Seattle and it looks like I’d only be about 2 and 1/2 hours from GM place...and believe me I’d be there every time the Winged Wheel came to town! But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I, for one, am going to remember that there is hockey, no matter how bad our (Detroit) goaltending is, because last night...at least it wasn’t the worst. Snuck down to the 5th row and snapped a couple pics on my LG Voyager phone (yes, I fell victim to the countless commercials during last year’s playoffs) if you’d like to see them...especially the score board!
Thanks for being such a good sport! And keep on, keepin’ on.
