Cory Schneider is the Vancouver Canucks star-of-the-future and he’s been tearing it up in the AHL so far this year to prove it. Still, Schneider has never played a regular season game in the NHL but that’s all about to change: he’s up tonight against the Flames on Hockey Night in Canada.
“I’m definitely excited, but at the same time I’m focused and worried about the game tonight because it’s a big divisional game so we need the two points.”
—Cory Schneider in the Vancouver Sun
I’ll bet he’s excited… especially if “excited” is code for “I nearly threw up when Coach told me. Oh my god, there’s gonna be how many cameras??”
Good luck to Schneider. One of the only upsides to Luongo’s injury was the opportunity for us to see what he can do in the NHL. I think I’m almost as excited as Schneider is.

Well, he’s getting thrown into the deep end of the pool, that’s for sure. I do expect he’ll be fine in the long run, but tonight…? Geez, I’m going to be very nervous for him.

I might help if Vancouver wasn’t getting outshot nearly two-to-one by the Flames, however.

Both Schneider and Sanford have played well in Roberto Luongo’s absence, and though the Canucks are going through a losing skid right now the losses certainly can’t be laid at the feet of those two goalies. If anything this should be a wake up call for Canucks management that they still need to make moves to improve the Canucks offense. Roberto Luongo is a superstar, but unless he is healthy and at his very best the Canucks certainly won’t make any noise in the playoffs, assuming they can even make it there. Come on Gillis, the Aquilinis brought you in to make some noise. You’ve got some cap room. Get the beleaguered Canuck goalies some offensive help, will ya?

He has been so fantastic for pretty much his whole career that I don’t want to have such high expectations on him
