St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the club has signed 2008 first round selection Alex Pietrangelo.

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today the team has signed right wing Akim Aliu (6-3, 216) to a three-year contract.
Aliu, 19, ranked third on the Ontario Hockey League’s London Knights with a career-high 61 points (28 goals, 33 assists) and paced the squad with 133 penalty minutes in 60 regular-season games last season. Chicago’s third choice (56th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Aliu also made his professional debut last year, posting two penalty minutes in two contests with the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs after being signed to an Amateur Tryout Contract on April 4, 2008.

Blue Jackets Form Affiliation With Johnstown Chiefs

Columbus Blue Jackets General Manager Scott Howson announced today that the club has reached an agreement with the Johnstown Chiefs to serve as the ECHL affiliate for the Blue Jackets and the American Hockey League’s Syracuse Crunch for the 2008-09 season.

“We are very excited to be partnering with the Chiefs this year,” said Blue Jackets Assistant General Manager Chris MacFarland. “Developing players is crucial to the long term success of any team, and we feel Johnstown will be a positive place for our young players to learn the game and gain professional experience.”

Johnstown, the only remaining original ECHL franchise, celebrated its 20th season in the ECHL in 2007-08. The Chiefs also serve as the ECHL affiliate for the Colorado Avalanche and AHL’s Lake Erie Monsters. Columbus was affiliated with the ECHL’s Elmira Jackals last season, after affiliating with the Dayton Bombers from 2000-07.
