A Continuing Trend and Trouble Ahead

Things continue to go sour for the Blueshirts as the team lost 5-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes last night at Madison Square Garden.

The team started slow and was never able to really recover, which has been a problem for the Rangers all season long. The problem continues to grow and has sunk the Blueshirts into the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference with 55 points, barely keeping them in a playoff spot as the Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins, Atlanta Thrashers, Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Islanders all have 54 points.

There’s trouble on this team folks. They’re having trouble scoring, not playing solid defensively and according to Larry Brooks, things are very negative in the locker room. This has led the Rangers and their fans to picture what it will potentially be like in April when the team does not make the postseason.

Things won’t get any easier as the Rangers take their act on the road beginning Saturday night with a game against the Phoenix Coyotes. The following night, the team takes on the Colorado Avalanche and on Tuesday night, they’ll play the Los Angeles Kings before returning home next Thursday night for a game against the Capitals.

What do all the four above mentioned teams have in common? That’s right, they all hold a playoff spot so expect these games to be extremely difficult for the Blueshirts.

How many points do you think the team will come away with? I think a realistic guess/approach is four. Anything less than that will sting come April.
