Goal Line Report
A Few Quick Thoughts

Before signing off for the evening, I had a few quick thoughts pertaining to the hockey world:
- Is this too predictable? If you’re a true hockey fan, it’s easy to admit that the first two rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs was terrific hockey. You had great performances by the likes of Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, Cam Ward, Tim Thomas, Johna Franzen, Patrick Kane, etc. It was exciting, fresh and unpredictable. Now that we are in the Conference finals, however, it’s become extremely predictable. The Pittsburgh Penguins advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals after sweeping the Carolina Hurricanes tonight while the Detroit Red Wings are one victory from beating the young Chicago Blackhawks in five games. All in all, the Penguins and Wings are destined to meet in the Stanley Cup finals once again. Where has the excitement gone? Where is the unexpectedness of playoff hockey? Where is the magic?
- Speaking of the Pens’, is it right or even fair to compare them to the Oilers’ dynasty of the 1980’s as Chris Simpson of Versus did?
- Also, completely unrelated, according to a Russian journalist that James Mirtle chatted to, New York Rangers forward Nikolai Zherdev, a restricted free agent, rejected an offer from a KHL club (Salavat Yulayev) and wants to remian a Blueshirt. How do you feel about that Blurshirt fans?
Good night and good hockey folks!
