A Positive Note

With the New York Rangers getting ready to travel to Western Canada this week, it’ll be nice for them to do so on a positive note as the team came up with a 1-0 shutout victory over the Boston Bruins yesterday afternoon at Madison Square Garden.

Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist ruled the afternoon as he made 29 stops, many of them critical in the third period as many of them were in terrific fashion. Without Henrik between the pipes, this could have been a much better outcome.

The game also marked the return of Marian Gaborik, who admitted that he was less than 100 percent but wanted to be on the ice to help out his team. He did just that by scoring the games’ only goal and also by generating several quality scoring chances. When this guy is healthy, he’s one of the best, folks.

Now, the team gets ready for the dreaded road trip across Western Canada to take on the Vancouver Canucks (Tuesday, November 3, Edmonton Oilers (Thursday, November 5) and Calgary Flames (Saturday, November 7).

It’ll be nice for the team to see their former head coach Tom Renney in Edmonton (hopefully they will show him how much they have improved offensively) as well as an ex-foe with the Devils, Ron Sutter behind the Flames bench. Remember, the team had a lot of success against Sutter when he was coaching across the Hudson River.

It’ll certainly be an interesting road trip and one that could possibly bring out the true colors of the Rangers. However, for right now, let’s think about the 1-0 victory they posted yesterday and how they can build on it throughout this road trip.

About Goal Line Report

The Goal Line Report will focus on all things Eastern Conference. Do I have a bias towards the Eastern Conference just because I am a New Yorker? No, but it certainly does make things easier! I’ll make my opinions known on Eastern Conference news bits (as often as I can), big games, hot and cold players, trades (I don’t make things up) and anything and everything else related to the Eastern Conference that I think is important for hockey fans to know. I will, in every sense of the word, be the beast of the East while also making sure to drop my thoughts on other hockey news items.

I, Patrick Hoffman, have covered the NHL since 2003 and have worked for a variety of hockey media sources including: Stan Fischler, Spector’s Hockey, TheHockeyNews.com, HockeyBuzz.com, McKeen’s Hockey, Blueshirt Bulletin, XM Home Ice Channel Hockey Blog, HockeyPrimeTime.com, FantasyHockey.com. NY SportsDay, and HokejaVestnesis.com.
