Goal Line Report

An Interesting Perspective

Over at New York Rangers blog The Rangers Tribune, Nick Monte talks about how the New York Islanders passing the Blueshirts in the Atlantic Division is a good thing.

Nick believes that this is a big kick in the pants for the Rangers and that this will motivate them to get it going and start winning hockey games. I happen to agree with Nick and believe that if the team uses this as motivation, they may be able to to get themselves going in the right direction.

However, a lot needs to be done in order for that to happen. The team still needs secondary scoring and needs to stop relying on Marian Gaborik to score all their goals.

Secondly, the team needs to implement better defensive zone coverage. In the past few weeks, the team has left both Henrik Lundqvist and Steve Valiquette out to dry.

Lastly, and this may be a first, the team needs better goaltending from Lundqvist. Lundqvist has bailed his team out many times in his four and 1/2 seasons in the NHL but right now, it’s about “what have you done for me lately.” I’m a big believer that as Henrik goes, so does the team in front of him.

It starts tomorrow night in Buffalo when the team takes on a red-hot Sabres hockey club.
