Back to the Grind

I hope everyone here at Kukla’s Korner had a great Christmas. I certainly did as I finally got a PS3 and NHL 2010, which is amazing by the way.

Anyways, the New York Rangers are back in action tonight as they take on the New York Islanders at the Garden, in what should be a chance for the Blueshirts to pick up another two points. It will also be a chance for the team to extend their winning streak to five games.

Many fans out there are probably expecting this team to put on a disappointing display tonight against the boys from Long Island as the team is coming back from a few days off and will probably be looking to do too much to spread more holiday cheer. On the other hand, there is a good reason to believe that the Rangers will make it five straight tonight, given the way the team has played over the last week.

According to Andrew Gross of Ranger Rants, head coach John Tortorella will be implementing the same lineup as he did on Wednesday night in the team’s 4-1 victory over the Florida Panthers:

Vinny Prospal-Brandon Dubinsky-Marian Gaborik
Christopher Higgins-Artem Anisimov-Ryan Callahan
Sean Avery-Chris Drury-Enver Lisin
Donald Brashear-Brian Boyle-Ales Kotalik
Marc Staal-Michal Rozsival
Michael Del Zotto-Dan Girardi
Wade Redden-Matt Gilroy

For the Rangers, that also means Henrik Lundqvist will be back between the pipes. In the four game win streak, the “King” has allowed just five goals on 141 shots. Obviously, it’s great that Lundqvist is getting the job done but let’s hope the defense steps up and helps Henrik out by doing its best to limit the shots against.

If the Blueshirts manage to win tonight, that will give the Rangers 41 points and place them sixth in the Eastern Conference, assuming that both the Atlanta Thrashers and Ottawa Senators lose their games tonight to the Tampa Bay Lightning and Buffalo Sabres, respectively.

Enjoy the game tonight folks!
