Biron Getting the Job Done

I want to start out this post by saying what I did in a blog I wrote yesterday: there is NO goaltending controversy.
What the New York Rangers have right now with their goaltenders is a terrific thing. Back-up Martin Biron was terrific between the pipes in beating the Calgary Flames last night at Madison Square Garden by a score of 2-1. He did not allow any soft goals, made the big saves when the team needed to and most importantly, he picked up the win, which is what the game is all about, right?
As I mentioned yesterday, it is obvious that starter Henrik Lundqvist is struggling. However, that does not mean that he has been replaced by Biron. It simply means that Lundqvist is being given the right around the time to fix his game so that he can be the backbone of this hockey club, something he has been since joining the National Hockey League in the 2005-06 season.
With that said, however, it sure is great to see that a Rangers’ back-up netminder is getting the job done for his team. In seven games, Biron is 5-2 with a 2.15 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. Based on those numbers, Biron certainly deserves to start a bunch of games this season.
Again, there is not a goaltending controversy here. Believe it or not, this is probably all designed to get Lundqvist going again while also showing that the team has two solid goaltenders, something that is going to be needed to get to the Stanley Cup playoffs come April.
